Elizabeth poured herself into her book. Sam and Dean had been stunned to see her back at the bunker so quick, but she'd hardly said two words.

Her headphones were almost always in, her eyes locked on the screen or the books around her, either typing, looking through notes, or flicking through books.

Sam and Dean didn't know what to do, they had never seen her like this before, especially so quiet.

"I'm telling you, Crowley's done something." Dean said firmly to Sam one day. "It's the only explanation."

"Dean, she made a promise not to kill anymore." Sam said. "Chances are, that's what's eating her up."

"No man, there's more to it." Dean said adamantly. "We've all done shit like that before, but it hadn't made us so...empty. She's struggling with something but she won't tell us what."

"I'm concerned to Dean, but you know without virtually interrogating her, there's no way she'll say anything." Sam said, watching his brother pace. "And, I don't know about you, but I don't really want to do that."

Dean pauses. "Do you reckon Cas would do something?"

"Like what?" Sam asked.

"I don't know, use his angel mojo somehow, find out what's eating at her." Dean shrugs as Sam raises an eyebrow. "It could be worth a shot."

"Yeah, like she's going to go along with that." Sam said.

"What? You'd prefer I ask Crowley?" Dean stared at Sam, his frustration clear. "In case you haven't noticed, that bracelet hasn't come off."

"I...I have noticed." Sam agreed, but was hesitant. "But we don't even know if he gave it to her. It could just be-"

"Sam, when have we ever known Lizzie to wear jewellery outside of a case?" Dean pulls out his phone. "I'm messaging."

"And he's not going to be a total pain in the arse." Sam mutters.

"This is Lizzie, Sam."

"I know."

Elizabeth walked into the library, only to catch the middle of an argument.

"-that I'm going to believe that?" Dean was saying angrily.

"I couldn't really care less." Crowley bit back. "I don't have to answer to you two."

She looks between them, unable to decide whether it was Dean or Crowley who looked more irritated, but it was clear that Sam was more than a little exasperated.

"What are you doing?" She asked, placing her laptop down and making the men jump.

"Your brothers seem to believe that I've done something to you." Crowley said darkly, his gaze flickering to her. "Wouldn't leave me alone till I came and explained what."

Elizabeth blinks and then stares at Sam and Dean. "You really think he's done something to me?"

"Well, you've hardly been yourself." Dean growled. "And he was as good an explanation as any."

"Uh huh." She said slowly. "Did you think that I just wasn't coping Dean?"

Dean looked at her, his expression hard. "I've seen you not coping Lizzie and this is a lot more than that."

Elizabeth sighs and for a single moment, Crowley's gaze flickered with worry. "Dean, you can't even begin to imagine what I'm feeling right now. Don't you think that asking me would've been easier?"

"If I knew you would answer, I would have." Dean said. "Because with you when you're an emotional wreck is like talking to a brick wall."

"Like you're any better Dean." Elizabeth pulls her laptop closer, intent on getting on with her work. "Now, if you don't mind."
