Lunchtime rolled around, and Rachel found herself staring at Finn Hudson...again. She always stared at him during lunch. He was talking with his Brother and his boyfriend, and he had a smile on his face. Rachel loved the way that he smiled. His whole face lit up, and his eyes seemed to glow. She loved the little dimples that appeared in his cheeks as well.
"He's hot, isn't he?"
Rachel turned her head to find Cassandra, the tall blond senior that hung out with Finn, standing right next to her. "What?" she asked. This was the first time that Cassandra ever spoke to her.
"Finn Hudson. I noticed you staring at him."
A blush came up Rachel's face and she tried her best to hide it. "I was just looking for my friend when I noticed him. I have to tutor his friend Noah in chemistry, so I was thinking about asking Finn where I could find him." Nice recovery, Rachel thought to herself.
"Yeah, Noah doesn't think to much about school." After a brief pause, Cassandra introduced herself. "I'm Cassandra," she said, extending her hand to Rachel.
"I'm Rachel," she said as she shook cassandra's hand.
"So...do you know Finn?" Cassandra asked.
Rachel looked over at Finn again, and noticed that he was nearly doubled over in laughter from something that Blaine had said. God, he looks so cute when he laughs, she thought. "No, not really," she responded.
"Do you want an introduction?" Cassandra asked.
Rachel looked back at Cassandra in shock. Rachel thought that Cassandra was Finn's girlfriend, and here she was, offering to introduce her to Finn. "No, no...that's okay. I really have to get going."
"Oh, come on. It will only take a second," Cassandra urged with a friendly smile.
Rachel looked around desperately for an escape. She did want to meet Finn, but she had no idea what to say to him, or how to act around him. Finally, she spotted Quinn at the door and let out a sigh of relief. "I really should be going. My friend just walked in."
"Okay," Cassandra said. "It was nice meeting you Rachel."
"Nice to meet you too," Rachel answered before she walked over to Quinn. She kept her back turned towards the cafeteria, just in case Finn glanced over in her direction.
"Was it just me, or did I just see you talking to Cassandra July?" Quinn asked.
"Can we go, please?" Rachel begged. She looked over her shoulder and saw Cassandra talking to Finn. She quickly turned and faced the doors when she saw Cassandra look right at her and point to her.
"Oh my god!" Quinn exclaimed. " Finn in looking right at you." After glancing at her friend, Quinn rephrased her last comment. "Well, actually he's looking right at the back of your head because you won't turn around to face him."
Rachel felt her heart slamming inside her chest. She could practically feel Finn's eyes on her, and the dozens and dozens of butterflies that were flying around in her stomach were doing so relentlessly. "Can we go, please," Rachel pleaded.
"If you want to," Quinn said. "Or we could stick around for about ten more seconds."
"Why ten seconds?" Rachel asked.
"Because that's how long it will take Finn to make it over here. He's walking straight towards us."
Rachel's eyes grew and without thinking, she grabbed Quinn by the arm and dragged her out of the cafeteria. Rachel practically ran down to the end of the hall, trying to turn the corner before Finn could see were she went.
"What was all that about?" Quinn asked after they stopped.
"I can't meet him," Rachel said.
"Why not?" Quinn asked. "He's the hottest guy in school, and he was walking straight towards you. All you had to do was stand there and wait for him."
"I don't know what to say to him," Rachel confessed.
"Tell him that he has really pretty eyes, or that you like his Jeep, or that you want to get down his pants...just say anything!!"
"Quinn," Rachel whined. "You don't understand. I've wanted to meet him ever since I was in seventh grade."
"And now, five years later, you finally had the opportunity to, and you practically ran away as fast as you could."
Rachel let out a sigh. "I just have this certain image in my head about what he's really like, and I don't want to ruin that. If I really met him, he might turn out to be completely different."
"Yeah, completely better," Quinn said. "Rach...you know just as well as I do that you would give anything to just talk to Finn. I know that you're nervous, and I would be too. But don't run away like that. What do you think's going through his head right now? He just tried to introduce himself to you, and you ran away from him."
Rachel felt her heart drop. "My god, you're right," she whispered. "He probably thinks that I hate him or something."
"Maybe he doesn't know what you look like," Quinn said. "Maybe that's why he wanted to introduce himself, you know, to get a good look at you."
The look of panic on Rachel's face was clearly read by Quinn.
"Hey," Quinn said. "Do you want to go back in there?" After Rachel shook her head, Quinn let out a sigh. "Okay. Just don't run away next time."
Rachel nodded her head before she started walking down the hallway with Quinn. 'God, please don't let him think that I hate him,' Rachel thought to herself.
