Well if Season 2's episodes are in order and after the Christmas special, then Mari's birthday is around January. I reckon Gabriel's tragedy occurred around summer. Because he got the Miraculous a bit before Mari and Adrien (Wayzz would have notified Master Fu sooner otherwise). Say Mrs Agreste got a business trip to Tibet or was associated with Master Fu.

She could be the peacock holder and she goes to Tibet to, I don't know, give up her Miraculous. Then she never returns.
In fact, she could have given Gabriel a negative message. Then he goes there to find her, leaving Adrien in Nathalie's care.
Nathalie could know the truth, because maybe the three of them were previously involved in the Miraculous business and Gabriel chose to stay and look after Adrien.
Gabriel believes Mrs Agreste as dead or can't find her and knows she's in dangerous hands or something. He could blackmail a student (if you like) there, Master Fu, who regrets helping him. But Master Fu could think he died in the fire.
After he helps Gabriel sneak in, Master Fu somehow was told the Miraculouses were in danger because of that man and tries to give a message to the others to leave. But they either don't believe it (he could be already in disgrace) or they didn't get it. Master Fu could accidentally set it on fire without them receiving the message? The Miraculouses could be in the temple. Or maybe they did get the message and fled.
Gabriel could survive and finds the peacock and the moth Miraculouses, as well as the book. Maybe Mamma Agreste told him before or he's meddled in this business before. So at that point, he could turn cold and blame it on the Miraculouses. He didn't want anything to do with the Miraculouses. Or that there was no way he could find her or do. After he studied the book and designed, he could think the Miraculouses could get her back. Thinking that in the past, using them for good never had any use, he abused it, putting all his misery and despair into it, feeding off despair as Hawkmoth.
But then again, Master Fu looks really young at the time of the temple. Hmm... I reckon it was lost at the temple, then when Mamma Agreste's disappears, Gabriel goes to the temple and finds the Miraculouses.
Sorry if that was confusing. I have scattered theories about all this. Until we get more evidence, I can't be too sure of anything yet. But what I guess is that between two Christmasses, Mrs Agreste disappears. In the Origins episode, Hawkmoth uses his Miraculous for the first time in around the start of the school year. Then Wayzz feels a negative aura and alerts Master Fu. Then the duo get their Miraculouses. So it must be before Hawkmoth gets his Miraculous but after the Christmas before the Christmas Special. That's why I think she disappeared in the summer. Also, in a lot of pics of her have a blurred green background - the park????
I know this might have not really answered your question, but this is my theory.
