I Need A Hero Vol 2 {Peter Quill}

Gamora was still crouched beside Gwen, holding onto her hand. She had no idea that Gwen was actually sleeping, dreaming of the Kosmonian Sanctuary. It would be awhile yet before she actually wakes up.

"Are you sure she is dead?" Drax asked

"I checked her pulse and her breathing. There was no sign of either" She looked at Gwen. "How are we supposed to tell Peter she's dead? He'll be heartbroken" While Gamora was worrying about how to break the news to Peter, Ego was coming closer.

"He's coming" Mantis said

"Didn't you say you could make him sleep?" Drax said

"When he wants. He's too powerful. I can't"

"You don't have to believe in yourself, because I believe in you" As Ego was coming closer to the four of them, Mantis crouched down and touched him.

"Sleep!" Ego did just that.

"I never thought she'd be able to do it. With as weak and skinny as she appears to be" Drax said

"I don't know how long I can hold him" Mantis said. Gamora lifted Gwen from the ground, and hugged her. Gwen wasn't just a female companion or a best friend to Gamora, she was her sister. As if Gwen being dead wasn't bad enough, the ship with Yondu, Nebula and Peter exploded. Nebula seemed fine, but there was no sign of the other two. That quickly changed when both Peter and Yondu were lightly falling to the ground. Yondu was using his arrow like how Mary Poppins uses her umbrella.

"You look like Mary Poppins" Peter commented

"Is he cool?" Yondu asked

"Hell yeah he's cool"

"I'm Mary Poppins ya'll!" The two of them landed on the ground. Rocket followed suit, not long after. Gamora picked Gwen off of the ground, and walked over to Peter. He noticed the sad look on Gamora's face.

"Peter, I'm so sorry"

"She's dead?" Peter didn't want to believe it. His best friend and the love of his life was gone. "Let me hold her" Gamora granted Peter's request, so now Gwen was in Peter's arms. He looked down at her, feeling a tear shed. "I love you, my Star-Princess, and I always will" He pressed a kiss to her lips, which were unusually warm for someone who was supposed to be dead. A piece of flying debris hit Mantis.

"Mantis, lookout!" Drax warned a bit too late. Ego was waking up again. Drax picked up Mantis. "She's just unconscious"

"How long till the bomb goes off?" Peter asked Rocket.

"In the unlikely event that Groot doesn't kill us all, about six minutes" he replied. Just above them, an opening to the outside appeared.

"Kraglin, we need the quadrant for an extraction, T-Minus five minutes" Yondu said.

"Somebody's gotta be up top when Kraglin arrives. Drax, take Mantis" Peter removed his aerorig and put it on Drax.

"Oww, my nipples!" Drax said, before flying upwards.

"Gamora, I want you to take Gwen and keep her body safe" Peter said, giving Gwen back to Gamora. The part of the ground where she was standing on broke, and sent both her and Gwen falling. Gamora let go of Gwen, but quickly grabbed onto one of her hands before she could go completely out of reach. Nebula came to their rescue, She grabbed onto Gamora's free hand and used one of her swords to grab onto the nearby rock. Nebula threw both Gamora and Gwen onto the surface of it. Gamora stared at Nebula, thankful that her sister saved them.

"Get over it" Nebula said. Gamora stood up, and picked up Gwen again. Various platforms started raising.

"We have to get up to the extraction point" Gamora said

"How are you going to do that with the purple princess in your arms?" Nebula asked. There was a platform just below them that was starting to raise.

"Please forgive me for this, Gwen" Gamora said. She threw Gwen in the direction of the platform. Luckily she landed on it safely. Gamora and Nebula jumped towards it, gripping onto the edge of the platform, eventually climbing onto it. It eventually crashed into a rock wall. Gamora placed Gwen over her shoulder. It might be hard for her to climb with Gwen over her shoulder, but she was going to do it. As they were climbing up the wall, Ego trapped them.

Meanwhile, Peter, Yondu and Rocket were trying to buy time for Groot so that he could place a bomb at Ego's core.

"Come now Peter. I know this isn't what you want. What kind of father would I be if I let you make this choice? Soon Peter, we will be all there is, so stop pissing me off!" Ego said. He hit Peter, knocking him to the ground and making his mask break off. Ego was becoming too much for the three of them to handle. He started walking towards Peter with his body forming. Ego knocked Yondu to the ground, covering him in rock. "I told you, I don't want to do this alone" Various blue beams of light started piercing through Peter. "You cannot deny the purpose the universe has bestowed upon you" Ego was powered up again. "It doesn't need to be like this Peter. Why are you destroying our chance? Stop pretending you aren't what you are. One in billions, trillions, even more. What greater meaning could life possibly have to offer?"

"I don't use my head to fly the arrow boy, and I know Gwen doesn't use her powers with her head. We use our hea..." Yondu didn't get to finish his sentence. Peter turned his head from Yondu to Ego. Memories started coming back to him. Listening to music with his mother, laughing with Drax, flying with Rocket, Gamora giving him advice on how to propose to Gwen, Yondu teaching him how to use a gun, and his first kiss with Gwen. Peter balled up his fists, focusing on his power, making the little pebbles around him move, and the ground beneath him light up.

"You shouldn't have killed my mom and my Star-Princess, and you shouldn't have squished my walkman!" Peter said. With that, he charged at Ego.
