"And if hope has flown away,
In a night or in a day,
In a vision or in none; it it, therefore, the less gone?
All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."
-EDGAR ALLAN POE

The master-butler closed his book, gently stroking the cover with his bare fingers.
He smiled calmly and took another sip of his whiskey, an interesting habit that man had left him with, really. It hadn't been too long, no. Perhaps about four decades or so.
After all, to him, human time passed in the blink of an eye.

Truthfully, he wouldn't find him in hell, most likely. Contrary to popular belief, the man was not a necrophiliac, nor was a slave to opium (unlike a certain person) or any other drug. His "alcoholic tendencies" did not sprout as much from his love for drink, as from the fact that even one sip made him dizzy and drunk. Moreover, his "neurotic" descriptions were not personal experiences, but behaviors he had studied in a friend with such issues.

But again, why did it sadden the demon?
The uncertainty of seeing that man in heaven or hell irked him. Nonetheless, it wasn't something that brought him surprise.

The man that was currently named "Sebastian" due to contract with a rather young and fragile master finished his drink off and gazed at the open window, enjoying the breeze on his human cheeks, even if it was an unnecessary gesture.

She got up from his bed and made her way to him.
"All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream." she uttered, stroking the Butler's features.
He chuckled darkly in response.

"I suppose that's true, even for us."

"For us, even more so."

She sat on the demon's lap and looked out the open window alongside him, enjoying the view of the Phantomhive gardens. Sebastian let his chin fall to her shoulder, his crimson eyes shining a momentary fuchsia, out of nothing more than platonic pleasure.

"How long has it been, crow, my love? Six hundred, seven hundred years?"

He laughed. "You are good at math."
The Butler kissed her bare shoulder and she chuckled.

"We've seen so many changes."

"Yet I haven't been this surprised in centuries."

She turned to look at him.
"What are you going to do?"

"Simply follow the orders given to me."

The woman nodded.
"Good boy."

Sebastian smirked.
"Am I a dog now?"

"Heavens no!" She laughed at her own pun. The woman pushed one of the demon's wayward strands of hair behind his ear and kissed his lobe.
"You know, your current appearance is extremely pleasing to the eye."
"Is it?"

"Ah, of course I'd never trade you no matter what you looked like. I'd be too bored.
Even if you take the presence of a young girl again!" She laughed. "it was hilarious that I wasn't convicted for witchery, but for homosexuality. I had a good laugh that time."

He looked at her apologetically.

"You know, I don't like the smell of burning flesh. Our sensitive sense of smell really doesn't help."

"Sorry."

"Pfft." the woman kissed him.
"I could see you were enjoying every bit, you sadist."

The master-butler shrugged. "What did you expect of a demon?
That is why you prefer to stay upstairs, isn't it, you little fox?"

"Maybe."

She relaxed her face with laughter.
"Alright, you caught me. But can you blame me?"

"You have lived longer than me, yet you behave like a child.", Sebastian smirked, how he enjoyed teasing her.

It's fun.

The two halted their conversation for a little while, enjoying the friction of their bodies, both cool and pale, in combination with an unusually refreshing July night sky. For creatures who naturally lived in a hellishly warm environment, they weren't fond of the heat.
The lady shifted comfortably, her chest firmly on the Butler's, her arms clinging around his neck, so that her nose was able to touch his cheekbones and her lips at the height of his jaw had she wanted. Sebastian seemed to enjoy the angle. What a night.

They ended up in that position until morning, not batting an eyelash, not a single yawn of farigue. They were each other's special company, one that they would never trade for anything in the world. Besides; they were capable of grasping anything they wished for, both of them.
When if was time for the demon to tend to his contract duties, he kissed the woman's forehead and brought a finger to his lips.

She got off him and smirked playfully.
Keeping secrets, dirty little secrets were their speciality.

"Good day at work, darling!" She gave him a 'good luck with the needy young master' peck.

"And don't forget."

He chuckled. "I know, I know .
All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."
