Alex Looses Her Pride

Alex Fierro's POV

So this little girl, only about 13, comes into Valhalla all high and mighty because she killed some evil president in Midgard with a bow and arrow. It's like her third day and whatever, and almost everyone is talking about how deadly she is. I haven't seen her in battle yet, sure I watched her kill a president on the TV, but she hasn't faced me yet! Even the golden boy (Magnus) said she was a deadly fighter and that he was glad she is in Valhalla. Whatever it is about her that is so deadly, I can't see. She's a daughter of Frey, a healer, golden long hair, bright yellow dress, pale skin, bright warm smile. Magnus wasn't even spending time with me because she showed up! I tried to get him alone so we can talk and sit in his atrium like we used to, but his sister had to show up and ruin everything. Her name is Ray Tag, a stupid name if I say so myself. I mean Ray, as in a ray of sunshine, how creative! So she walks around like she is on top of the world while I plan to kill her in battle. I have rarely ever seen her in battle and would always be in the trees shooting arrows at people from afar. She had one particular tree that she stays in, I know she is in it by the constant arrows firing out of the leaves. It's a huge pine tree that she shoots out of, always somehow disguising herself within the trees. I was determined to kill that girl today because she stole my best friend from me. That's right, you heard me, Magnus is my best friend. So what? Stop looking at me like that! So I was ready for battle, but with no armor. I was determined to climb that tree and knock her out of it. So I went into battle with all my friends from floor nineteen like normal but then ran away from them as soon as I had the chance. I tore through person after person with my garrote as I made my way towards the tree. Then a thought occurred to me, what if I just knocked the tree down? With my garrote I could just slice it in half, it would squish anyone below it, and her! So I made my way towards the tree, fighting and hacking peoples head off in the process. Then an arrow whizzed right past my ear, cutting it slightly. I knew it was from her! I lashed out my garrote and cut a slash in the middle of the tree. It was ready to topple over and fall, I backed up so it wouldn't fall on me. But you know what happened? I saw Ray, she jumped out of the tree as it fell over and onto another tree, once again blending in. I cut that tree down as well, and she jumped again. She kept jumping from tree to tree as I cut every single one down. She was a smart girl, I'll give her that. No one was around, not one stray berserker in sight. We were the only ones there. Then I cut down the last tree in the forest. You know what Ray did? She jumped out of the tree and onto me. I fell to the ground with a hard thump, a crack in my spine confirmed my suspicion that I couldn't move. Ray smiled at me with her dazzling grin that admitted light from it. I couldn't do anything to stop her as she walked away, leaving me defenseless, but still alive. I cannot believe I was schooled by a thirteen-year-old girl! You don't know how embarrassing it is, especially if the person is younger than you, to die defenseless. I was slipping in and out of consciousness. Some parts of my body I could feel, and they stung, and the other parts of my body just felt non-existent. Yay. Great. I already know my friends are going to taunt me for it forever! Why is it taking so much time to die?! Ugh, this is just so embarrassing. Then the girl turns around on the top of a tree and takes out an arrow. She points it at me and I know she is going to shoot it. Yay. Wow. So much fun. Everyone will make fun of me for this now. And she shoots me, right in the heart, perfect aim and everything. I die instantly, regretting even coming after the girl. 

I wake up groggily after getting killed to find the worst thing ever smirking at me. My mother was staring at me as I slept. Man, he is so odd. I hate him, I really do, but why is he even here? Don't let your guard down! Scowl at him like usual, don't be emotional, keep that all inside.

"What are are you doing here?" I ask him, definitely him right now. 

With his scarred face, ragged clothing, and unkempt hair, he looked frightening. I couldn't let him know that though, he is a predator, and I am the prey. I won't let him see my fear because he will make fun of me for it like he makes fun of me just by existing. 

"I heard you got killed by a newbie 13-year-old girl, so I came here to laugh at you and tell you to never let it happen again," He says in what I can only describe as a ragged, hoarse, calm, even, and evil voice.

"Why does what I do matter to you?" I ask and slide of my bed while looking him right in his eyes.

He laughs slightly, a horrible noise to hear, like a horse's coughing when it's sick, and says simply, "Because you're my son".

"We'll you've never really cared about what I do before," I say briskly, "So why now?"

He smiles, not smirks, but smiles widely at me, "Because you have lost your pride, your sense that you can take my power that I gave you and made it your own, you just lost it by losing to that little girl".

I stand up straighter, trying to look brave although I am crumbling inside, "You can't control me".

He laughs his sickening laugh again and wills me to die. I fight it in my head, battle it with all the strength I have. You can do this, you can do this. He cannot control you, he will not control you. My legs feel like jello, and so my stomach. My feet feel like rubber and my head feels light a heavy weight. He will not win! I won't let him win! And then he wins. That's just it in a simple sentence. He forces me to die, force my brain and heart to stop. It's what I prided myself on for a long time, my ability to not have him control me. Now he kills me with just one thought and I am left without pride.
