*Thorin, Fili and Kili survive BOTFA in this :)*
"AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE?!" Your screaming ripped through the halls under the mountain "Have you gone completely mad?!" You glared furiously at your father, your chest heaved from all of the shouting. Your father, Dwalin, growled "What's so mad about it? Thorin has not only given his blessing, he encourages it!" You huffed "I don't even know the boy! I'm not going to marry him. You can't make me!" Losing his patience, Dwalin thundered "YOU DON'T GET TO CHOOSE! This is an honour and you will accept." Scoffing, you rolled you eyes and challenged him "And what if I don't?" Drawing a deep breath, Dwalin said through gritted teeth "I'll never forgive you, and I will no longer have a daughter." Closing your eyes, you stopped the tears from spilling over and bit your lip. How could he say that to you? Dwalin added "Fili is the heir to the throne of Erebor. You know Thorin is a good man- his nephew is too. Who knows? Maybe you'll actually like the boy when you meet him." With that, Dwalin exited your room and you collapsed onto your bed with a sigh.
Confused thoughts filled your head; you were getting married in a week. You didn't know who to. You didn't love him. But you couldn't refuse. How could your own father do this to you? His only daughter- only child. When you lost your mother all those years ago, he was destroyed but you were there for him, as he was for you. What had changed? Tomorrow there was to be a dinner to introduce the two of you. Imagining that Fili was as upset about the marriage as you were, you knew it was going to be painstakingly uncomfortable. Were you really going to go through with this? You had to...
The next morning came around far sooner than you were prepared for as you chose an outfit. One of the maids who was there to help you asked if you were okay. "You're as pale as a ghost." She said. All you did was nod distractedly in reply. Hours passed like seconds and soon your father was at the door, asking to come in. Now you were sat alone on the edge of your bed, struggling to contain your tears. Dwalin's heart broke when he spotted you and he hurried to your side to comfort you. Rubbing soothing circles on your back, he shushed you gently. The only thing you could say was "Why?" Dwalin sighed and told you "Thorin wanted to show his gratitude, and thought a knighthood was not enough. My darling, I can't refuse this and neither can you. He is asking us to be his family. You will be by the king's side. I'm sorry." Standing, Dwalin offered you his arm. With shaking hands, you linked arms and he guided you to the dining hall.
Through twisted paths and caverns, you nervously stumbled towards your entire future waiting in one room. As you arrived, the grand oak doors opened and revealed three men sat around a table which was adorned with all typed of fruit and wine. When the men saw you and your father, they politely got up from their chairs and bowed their heads in respect. You entered cautiously. The room was unlike any other you had seen in Erebor. The walls, usually a dull grey stone colour, were pale cream and decorated with paintings. In wonder, you stared at the flowers on the tables and admired the brightness of the room. Thorin chuckled from the head of the table, noting your fascination "The girl is sharp- this room is one of few, but we deal with very important matters here so we decided to make it more welcoming." You nodded understandingly. Reaching a seat opposite the two other men, Dwalin pulled it out for you in a gentlemanly manner. You hated seeing your father like this. You much preferred it when the two of you would go into the woods and play in the leaves during autumn. Who was this man offering you a seat and marrying you to stranger? Dwalin then took his own seat next to you. Thorin and the others sat and he spoke "I understand this may have been a shock to the both of you but Fili must find a wife and I know no man more honourable than your father." You smiled courteously but you were perplexed beyond belief. Which one was Fili? There were two people staring across at you. One with brown hair and one with blond. Both were striking in appearance and you found yourself blushing under their gazes. Thorin carried on "For the next week, you and Fili shall get to know each other, arrange details for the wedding and either fall in love, or learn to live with each other. Good luck." God, they made it sound like some sort of survival challenge. Thorin gestured for Dwalin to follow him out the door and then the brown haired man opposite you stood. You thought he was going to speak to you and watched him intently. Rather than saying anything, he smiled curtly and exited after his uncle and your father.
You were left alone with the blond dwarf who was sat studying you. He sighed and smirked "Didn't see this one coming." You shuffled your feet and kept your eyes on the floor, not replying. He frowned "You don't need to be nervous beautiful." You drew your gaze up to meet his. Did he just call you beautiful? "My name is Y/N." You introduced yourself. Getting up from his seat, he strolled around the table. Obsequiously, you stood and bowed your head. When the man reached you, he took your hand and kissed the back of it "I am Fili. That was my brother Kili." He nodded to the door. "Oh." Was all you could say. He was undeniably handsome and perfectly charming. "Might I ask, how does something as pretty as you come from something as ugly as Dwalin?" You giggled and blushed "I guess I was just lucky." Fili laughed with you and let go of your hand. The sensation of his warm hand against your cold one disappeared. "So, we are to be married in one week? What would you like to do?" Fili leant against the chair and folded his hands in front of him. You hadn't expected that and so shrugged "What is there to do?" He thought for a moment "Do you like exploring? How far from the halls have you strayed?" It took you a second to think but you replied "My father used to take me on many adventures through the ruins of Dale. I have many memories of the forests beyond there too. And yourself?" Fili scoffed "Where have I not been in Middle Earth at some time or another?" You frowned "And where is your favourite place?" Surprised at your interest, Fili smiled "Well at this moment, it is right here." You gushed at his flirtatious manner. "But," He said "I do have a certain affinity for Rivendell." You gasped "Land of the elves! Oh, is it as beautiful as they say?" For years you had dreamed of seeing Rivendell. There were so many stories and tales of the magical land. Fili was amazed by your curiosity "It was incredible. Though I'm not supposed to like it, or the elves. Uncle has never forgiven them." You nodded sadly, understanding what it felt like to make choices domineered by your father. Perching on the seat where Fili rested, you grinned at him and breathed "Tell me about it. I'm sure you have many stories." No one had taken such an interest in Fili in so long. No one genuinely wanted to hear him and he was so smart, all he wanted to do was share his knowledge. But he had to be brave above all else. His eyes lingered on you. There was something... Something loving in your nature. Fili began to tell you about his different adventures. Entranced, you listened to everything he said- all the while thinking about how this may not be as difficult as you had feared. You still had a week to get to know each other and he was so easy to talk to. Though you were scared, you hoped you would find a friend in him before the wedding, that way you could be there for each other. You chatted for hours, getting to know each other. Fili was funny, kind, intelligent and curious. You could admit you had a crush on him, and he mentioned several times how he was falling for you (though half the time you thought he was just joking). The conversation was so easy between you two and you even got to share your worries for the future. As your chatter dwindled, the sun had gone down and the two of you had meandered onto the balcony to admire the view. Hues of orange and pink melted into the sky. Stars appeared scattered across the universe. You were content, more so than you had been for a few months. Peacefully, you listened while Fili was telling you another one of his wild journeys.
When Fili finished the story he promised you out of nowhere "One day, I will take you to Rivendell and we can have our own adventures. Just you and me. It won't just be Rivendell, we'll go wherever you want. " Eagerly, you nodded, though a sudden sadness flooded through you and Fili saw this and worriedly took your hand. You smiled half-heartedly "You are very sweet Fili, but aren't you scared about next week?" Shaking his head confidently, he placed a hand on your cheek "I'm not scared because this evening has been the best I've had in a while. Maybe I barely know you, but I know I want to, really I do. Besides, you shouldn't think of it as a normal wedding, think of it as a new start. We have all the time in the world to fall in love, though I don't think it will take too long for me. Trust me, we don't have to be ready to love each other forever by next week, whatever my uncle says, we just have to be willing to give it a try." Reassured, you nodded and smiled gently. This was a new start. For you, Fili and for your father. You hoped you would make him proud.
Something sparked between you and Fili, and it was soon to become a bright burning flame. He was your king and your friend. And by next week, he was your husband.
