"Turn around Cameron." I order, dropping my towel. I change into some PJs.
"So what was all that with your mum?" He asks.
"It was nothing. Just another argument." I reply.
"Didn't sound like just an argument, you said you almost died." Cameron says.
"You can turn around now." I tell him., sitting on my bed. Cameron sits next to me.
"What happened Alice?" Cameron asks, taking my hand in his. I pull it out and on to my lap.
"When I was seven my parents left to go treat some people in Italy, they hired a babysitter to look after me all day but little did I know as soon as I feel asleep she left. A fire started on the first night they left and I was all alone in the house-" My eyes begin to water and a single tear falls down my face. "I looked for her but I couldn't find her so I called the fire department but the fire spread fast and blocked the stairs, I was trapped in room and I was so scared. The smoke got in and I didn't know what to do, the house began to fall apart and some of the ceiling fell down on me. The next thing I know I'm being carried out the burning house by a fireman and am taken to hospital. I broke my leg, an arm and two of my ribs, I also had third degree burns." I explain now fully sobbing. "Both my parents refused to come home from Italy as they were being paid for every person they saved. I was alone in the hospital for weeks. At one point no one knew if I would make it but they didn't care."
"I am so sorry." Cameron says, hugging me.
"This is why I don't get close to people. If you don't get close to someone they can't let you down."
"I promise I will never leave you." Cameron whispers into my ear which effects me in ways I cannot describe.
Cameron's POV:
I can believe something like that happened to her, she seems so happy and perfect who new deep down she was broken. "I can't wallow in the past." She says and pulls out of the hug. "You want pizza?"
"Um sure." I reply in disbelieve she can go from crying to absolutely fine.
"I can only order one though so my parents don't get suspicious." She picks up her phone and calls the pizza place. Only then did I notice a scar on her shoulder and knee.
Alice's POV:
"Now I need to tell you how to act around my god awful parents so they like you." I tell him.
"If they're leaving for four months then what does it matter?" Cameron asks.
"It matters because when they're back I won't be able to see you." I say. I hear the doorbell. "Pizzas here!"
I run downstairs, grab the box and pay for it without talking to my parents. I run back upstairs with it and put it on my bed, Cameron and I dig in.
*****/Some time later...
"So how do you want me to act around your parents? What will get me their approval." Cameron asks with a sense of sarcasm in his voice.
"Just act push, pretend to be wealthy or something. Don't mention drinking, smoking, drugs, fighting, anything to do with the police or anything you've ever done that's illegal. Wear a suit, the diner party's are very formal." I explain.
