After ten minutes of driving Cameron pulls up next to a group of guys and another two cars at an abandoned road. "Your late." The guy states.
"I know, I got held up." Cameron replies. "I'm here now, aren't I?"
"We start in five." The guy says before returning to his group.
"What are we doing? What starts in five?" I question Cameron.
"Chill out its only a drag race." Cameron laughs.
"Only a drag race! Do you know how many people die a year from these types of things?" I ask him.
"No and I don't care. I've done it ten times over and never been hurt." He answers.
"What if something happens? What if one of us gets hurt and I have to miss school, what if I get an injury that means I won't be able to become a doctor." I babble.
"Do you trust me?" Cameron asks, taking my hand in his.
"... Yes." I reply.
"Then trust that I'll keep you safe." Cameron urges.
"Fine but if I get hurt I'm suing you." I state.
"Fair enough." Cameron scoffs.
"Are you ready?" The guy appears at the window again.
"Yeah." Cam replies.
"Whoa, wait. You know the rules, who the fuck is your girlfriend?" He asks.
"Don't worry she's cool." Cameron replies.
"I'll have to take your word for it." He replies before standing in between our car and the one next to it.
"One! Two! Three! Go!" He shouts. Both cars speed off, letting smoke pour out the back.
I hold on to about everything I can, my seat, the seat belt and myself. I get flung around with every turn Cameron makes and I end up shutting my eyes. I feel light headed by the end of it as I practically held my breath the entire time.
"You should try opening your eyes next time, makes it much more fun." Cameron chuckles.
"Hey Cam, you gotta race Dom again, it was a tie." The man who I've learned is called Charlie says.
"Sure as long as you pay for the gas." Cam laughs. The man moves away from the car and to the position he was in before and begins counting. "Open your eyes this time."
As Cameron dangerously speeds off all I want to do is shut my eyes and hope for the best but the exhilaration and excitement overwhelms me and I end up having the best time of my life. "Whoa!" I cheer as we speed round bends and the car glides. "Faster! Faster! He's gaining on us!"
As we cross the finish line Cameron and I both let out a celebratory cheer. Cameron gets out the car so I decide to as well. "I told you it was better with your eyes open." Cameron brags as he hugs me.
"So what'd you win?" I ask him.
"Two hundred dollars." Cameron replies.
"What? You bet that much?" I question him.
"Well I got to make it worth while." Cameron says, taking the money off the guy.
"We should head back now and do our project." I state.
"Don't you want to stay a little longer?" Cameron questions. "One more go?"
"Fine but I'm driving." I smirk.
"Nooo way am I letting you drive my GTR!" Cameron exclaims. "But I'd love to show you how to."
"She can take a spin in my car." Dom says throwing me the keys which I catch.
"Thanks." I rush in and strap myself in. The passenger door opens and Cameron climbs inside.
"You didn't think I was letting you drive alone did you? You'll probably drive into a wall! I don't want to get sued." Cameron says.
