Two Weeks Later...

Emma's POV

I was packing up to leave for Portland, Oregon. I could tell Killian didn't like the idea, but I had to go. I was actually being included in the police case with Neal. It was called Operation Beaver. For Oregon's state animal. Every time I would throw an item of clothing into a pile beside my suitcase, Killian would take it out. I was getting frustrated with each passing second.

"Please don't go," he begged. It had been really hard to keep telling him that I was leaving, but it would be only be two weeks. Two weeks and I would be right back.

"You know I have to."

"Emma, please. I don't want you to get hurt."

"I won't. I'll be working with the police department. I'm going to catch him and bring him in, where they will arrest him. I'll be home by next Friday. Don't let Angela call without me."

He chuckled, "I won't."

I left with Killian to go to the airport, he carried my bags inside. They wouldn't let him past the check in desk without a ticket, and I looked back to see him waving. I waved back and disappeared to the plane. I ended up falling asleep on the way, and woke up when the flight attendant shook me awake. When the plane landed, I got my bag and got my rental car that was waiting for me in the parking lot of the airport. It wasn't as cozy as my bug, but it would do for the next two weeks.

As soon as I got into my hotel room, I called Killian. "Hi, love," he said when he picked up.

"Hey. I landed safely," I told him.

"Good. You'll call me everyday, right? No matter what time it is here."

"Right."

"I love you."

Hearing the broken tone in his voice made my heart break. But, I was going to be back. "I love you too." We talked for an hour and then I snuggled into the bed. I didn't want to hang up with him, but, I needed rest in order to be on high alert tomorrow. The people from my team were coming in too, so I wouldn't be working alone. I just wanted Neal off the streets so I could go home. The next morning, I woke up being sick to my stomach. I ran to the bathroom and threw up whatever was still in my stomach from the night before. "Damn airplane food," I mumbled after throwing up.

For the rest of the day, I was stuck in the office, but I could barely focus. I was nauseous and I could barely keep anything down. Elsa came over to me and sat next to me. She rubbed her hand up and down my back in a soothing way. "Maybe you should go back home," she suggested.

"While being sick? Killian has enough to take care of at the bar. He can't take care of me too," I said.

"It's better if you were resting. Everyone on our team knows you, Em. They'll understand you were sick and let you take some time off. We'll catch Neal. Just please, go home. Go back to him. You'll feel better."

After a few seconds of thinking, I nodded. I packed up my folder and hugged Elsa. "If you see Neal, punch him in the face for me."

She laughed, "you bet."

I went back to the hotel and laid in bed, sleeping off and on. In the evening, I was up long enough to book the next flight back home. I called Killian to tell him that I was coming home early, but I didn't give him the real reason. I felt like I was letting everyone on my team down. I was leaving, and they were forced to do this case without me. Elsa arranged a time and place to take the rental car, and she took me to the airport the next day.

The plane landed and I didn't waste any time on getting off. My stomach was in knots. I hadn't eaten anything, and that was a way I was going to avoid throwing up. I was dizzy and my skin was clammy. I looked around the exit of the airport, trying to find Killian, but I couldn't see him anywhere. I felt like I was going to pass out. I put my hand to my stomach, and the other to my head. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I turned around, finding Killian's blue eyes staring into my own.

"You're turning green, love." He put his cheek to my forehead, testing my temperature. He placed a kiss to my head as he pulled away. "And burning up. Sit down and I'll get your bag." He led me to a chair and I sat down. My dizziness went away but I was still queasy.

The next thing I knew, I was lifted up and out of the chair. I weakly opened my eyes and looked up to see Killian holding me, carrying me out of the building. I wrapped my arms around his neck and held onto him tightly as he walked us both out. He drove us both home, and I could barely keep my eyes open. They threatened to close as sleep kept calling my name. But, I fought it. There was a reason I was feeling sick. Could it have been food poisoning? Maybe. Heat exposure? Maybe. There were too many maybes. The last thing I saw was the car driving down the highway before slipping off into a deep sleep.

Eww. This chapter sucks. Forgive me.
