for all of the girls i've ever found attractive

"say, darry?"
he didn't respond, he just let out a little grunt to let her know he heard. he was cooking dinner.
"how come i don't like guys?"
his eyes widened and he turned to face the fifteen-year-old behind him, who was clad in a baby blue dress with a white collar and pearl earrings.
"what do you mean?"
"i mean, i don't like guys. they don't make me feel-" she sighed, smiling softly. "they don't make me feel anything, really."
"well, we all go through stages in our life when we don't really like anyone."
there was no way in hell he was gonna let steve's cousin come out to him, of all people.
"but girls make me feel-"
"look," he said, and she closed her mouth. "girls are for guys and guys are for girls. that's how it goes. whatever it is you think you're feeling, you're not."
"but-"
"shush," he said, "let me finish peeling these potatoes."
"darry," she whined, and he rose his brows at her. "i don't know why i like girls, i just do."
"woah, what?" it was sodapop, and he looked disappointed.
"i like g-"
"grilled cheese," darry cut her off as he glared, making her cower. sodapop was confused.
"darry, you're not being fair," she said, her eyes pooling with tears.
"i'm telling you right now: whatever it is you think you're feeling, you're not."
"i have a girlfriend and i invited her to come over! she should be here in an hour-!" she blurted, and darry set his knife down, frowning. he turned and looked at her briefly.
"you did what?"
"she said she wanted to meet my family so i invited her here," she bit her bottom lip, trembling.
darry wanted to be angry at her, but he couldn't. he was...flattered, almost, that she'd thought to bring her first girlfriend here instead of taking her to her actual house, 'cause she thought of them as family. he turned around and started peeling the potatoes again.
"i don't want to see any public displays of affection," he muttered, and she squealed, hugging him from behind.
"thanks, darry! i love you!" she giggled, giddy. he smiled a small smile, but kept the authority in his voice.
"yeah, yeah. no pda." he let out a small sigh when she ran to the living room.
"guys, my girlfriend's coming over!" she announced, and the boys all went slack-jawed. darry smiled from the kitchen.
"your what?" two-bit asked, and sodapop sighed.
"she was too young for me, anyway."
two-bit flicked him.
"ouch!"
-
"so, melanie, how long have you and my d-" he cut himself off with a cough, having almost said daughter. "doll been dating?"
steve laughed at darry and sodapop punched him, making ponyboy laugh, making steve punch him, making ponyboy whine and scoot closer to two-bit, who was sitting next melanie, who was eyeing her girlfriend. melanie was fifteen years of age and extremely beautiful.
