NandiI walked along the beach with my camera, taking random pictures as I talked with Nina about her gig that happened the other night.
She was enjoying her vanilla and caramel icecream. Her braids down and blowing with the wind. She had on a pair of white high waist shorts with a denim bikini top and I wore a simple zebra print sundress with sandals.
It was a warm day in the Cape and the beach was the one place that was buzzing with activities worth capturing. The surfers were hitting the waves, people were sunbathing, kids were out making sandcastles... Overall, it was a really chilled day.
"So," Nina turned her attention to me.
I'd just finished snapping a picture of a pregnant woman and her partner walking into the water as she cradled her bump.
"You're gonna ask me about Justin, aren't you?" I looked at my best friend.
We hadn't touched that subject since it happened two days ago and I hadn't heard from the man of the moment either.
"You guessed it." She smiled brightly, "how was it? Did you pass out again? How big is he? How good was he on a scale of one to ten? One being 'are you in yet' and ten being 'I need a wheelchair'."
My jaw dropped before I began laughing.
"One question at a time, please?" I said, looking around at something else to take a picture of.
"How was it?" Nina asked again.
"I don't kiss and tell," I batted my lashes and witheld my smile.
"Aw, Nandi, don't be like that! Come on, we're best friends."
"Hey, you never told me where you went off to that night. How come you only showed up in the morning?"
"First of all, if you'd stayed at the club the whole time, you'd know there was an after party."
"Lies you tell." I rolled my eyes.
"Okay, fine. I went with Ryan to his hotel to sleep, knowing that you and Justin were making babies."
"With Ryan the quiet one?" I couldn't believe it.
"It was either him or Khalil who thinks he's close to getting some from me. I'd like to keep him dreaming. Ryan's actually really nice. You two could get along. He's a camera king as well."
"He doesn't say much when I'm around."
"Because Justin obviously steals your attention, you wouldn't notice even if Ryan spoke to you because your attention goes entirely to his best friend."
"Okay, you're starting to worry me. Did you and him...? Cause the way you're defending him..."
"Birds of a feather may flock together, babe, but I don't exactly do what you do."
"That's because you don't have a rebellion status to keep up, so I don't take offence to what you just said."
"That's why I love you. I can't stand sensitive people and you just..."
"I have thick skin." I smiled.
"Right! So...?"
"He was AMAZING!" I grinned, reliving that night.
"But?"
"He's... more on the soft side, I think. He wanted to hold me afterwards and I don't..." I shook my head.
"I think he's really into you."
"Well, if he's looking for something serious, he's knocking on the wrong door. Soon as I leave for home, I go ghost." I smiled.
