Chapter 7

-Meanwhile at the chateau-

In the music room, Adagio Dazzle was playing the piano, Sonata Dusk was playing the flute off-key, and Aria Blaze was singing very badly. Opalescence got so annoyed by the way Aria Blaze sang that she couldn't take it anymore. So she left the room, and slammed the door shut, muffling the bad singing. She then heard singing coming from downstairs, so she looked down to see Fluttershy scrubbing the floor while singing a lot better than Aria Blaze. Opalescence walked down the stairs, and looked at the dustpan filled with dust that Fluttershy swept earlier. Opalescence smirked as she placed her paws in the dust, and she began hopping around the room. Suddenly, Fluttershy looked up, and said "Oh, Opal!" Opalescence smirked as she hopped on the step of the stairs, and looked at Fluttershy. The pony maid looked around to see paw prints all over the floor. She threw the cloth down, and said "You mean old thing!" As Opalescence hopped away, knocking the dust out of the dustpan, Fluttershy grabbed a broom, and said "I'm just going to have to teach you a lesson!" Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. "Open in the name of the prince!" An earth pony named Dr. Whooves who was carrying invitations said. Fluttershy opened the door, and Dr. Whooves gave her an invitation as he said "An urgent message from his imperial majesty." "Thank you." Fluttershy as Dr. Whooves left. As Fluttershy closed the door, Bubble Berry and Spike flew in from the hole in the pillar as Bubble Berry said "From the prince! What's it say, Fluttershy?" "Yeah, what's it say?" Spike asked.

"I don't know." Fluttershy said as she looked at the invitation. "He said it's urgent." She looked upstairs, and said "Maybe I should interrupt the, uh, music lesson." Bubble Berry and Spike giggled, and they flew into the hole in the pillar as Fluttershy walked up the staircase. In the music, Aria Blaze continued to sing until Sonata Dusk, got her hoof stuck in the flute, and she accidently hit her sister while trying to get unstuck. She got unstuck, but Aria Blaze took the flute, and hit her on the head as she said "You clumsy! You did it on purpose!" Sonata Dusk hit Aria Blaze on the head with the flute, and said "Be still you!" "You're always-!" Aria Blaze tried to say, but Adagio Dazzle made them stop fighting as she said "Mares, mares!" "It's her fault, mother!" Sonata Dusk said. "Remember." Adagio Dazzle said. "Above all, self-control." The stepsisters stuck their tongues at each other, and they calmed down. Adagio Dazzle was about to play the piano again, but Fluttershy knocked on the door, and she slammed her hooves on the piano keys as she turned to the door, and said "YES?!" Fluttershy opened the door, and Adagio Dazzle glared at her stepdaughter, stood up from the piano, and said "Fluttershy! I've warned you never to interrupt while-!" "But this just arrived from the castle." Fluttershy said making Adagio Dazzle stop talking.

Sonata Dusk and Aria Blaze ran to Fluttershy as they said "From the castle!" The stepsisters took the invitation as they began fighting each other for it, and said "Give it here! Let me have it! No, it's mine! No!" Then Adagio Dazzle took the invitation from her daughters, and said "I'll read it." Bubble Berry and Spike poke their heads out from the wallpaper as Adagio Dazzle read the invitation. She smiled with excitement as she said "Well! There's to be a Grand Galloping Gala in Canterlot!" "A Grand Galloping Gala?!" Sonata Dusk said smiling. "Canterlot?!" Aria Blaze said smiling too. "In honor of his highness: Prince Butterscotch!" Adagio Dazzle said feeling her excitement grow. "Oh! Prince Butterscotch!" Sonata Dusk and Aria Blaze said at the same time feeling excited. "And by royal command, every eligible mare is to attend!" Adagio Dazzle said. "Why, that's us!" Aria Blaze said. "And I'm so eligible!" Sonata Dusk said. Bubble Berry scoffed, and Spike giggled. Fluttershy smiled, and said "Why that means I can go too!" Aria Blaze scoffed, and said "Her! Dancing with Prince Butterscotch!" "I'd be honored, your highness." Sonata Dusk said mocking Fluttershy. "Would you mind holding my broom?" The stepsisters danced with each other as they laughed at their stepsister. Fluttershy frowned as she said "Well, why not? After all, I'm still a member of the family. And it says: By royal command, every eligible mare is to attend." "Yes. So it does." Adagio Dazzle said frowning.

The stepmother then straightened herself out, and said "Well, I see no reason why you can't go." Sonata Dusk and Aria Blaze gasped in shock as Adagio Dazzle said "If you get all your work done." "Oh, I will!" Fluttershy said smiling. "I promise!" "And, if you can find something suitable to wear. Bubble Berry and Spike smiled, and they went back into the hole in the wallpaper as Fluttershy said "I'm sure I can find. Oh, thank you, stepmother Adagio!" She ran out of the room, and closed the door. Sonata Dusk and Aria Blaze ran to their mother as Aria Blaze said "Mother! Do you realize what you just said?!" "Of course." Adagio Dazzle said. "I said: IF." "Oh. IF." Aria Blaze said. The stepsisters and stepmother then chuckled sinisterly.
