Things You Never Realized About The Outsiders (Part 2)

At the drive-in, when Dally was hitting on Cherry, she was chewing gum.
"The redhead was getting mad, or scared. She sat up straight and she was chewing hard on her gum." P.21

Ponyboy skipped a grade.
"You don't look old enough to be going to high school," the dark-haired girl said.
"I'm not. I got put up a year in grade school." P. 23

Sodapop is one of those teenagers that drinks milk straight out of the carton.
"Soda came running in. "Where's that blue shirt I washed yesterday?" He took a swig of chocolate milk out of the container." P. 109

Two-Bit's mother is a barmaid.
"...and Two-Bit's mother being a barmaid to support him and his kid sister after their father ran out on them..." P. 43

Ponyboy has a habit of chewing his nails.
"...the judge grinned at me and told me to quit chewing my fingernails. That's a habit I have." P. 168

Ponyboy also gets sweaty when he's really scared.
"I was sweating something fierce, although I was cold. I could feel my palms getting clammy and the perspiration running down my back. I get like that when I'm real scared." P. 4

Dally wasn't born in New York. He only spent three years there.
"Dally had spent three years on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten." P. 10

There was a war council before the rumble.
"We got hold of the president of one of their social clubs and had a war council." P. 83

Dally has a cousin that lives near Jay Mountain.
"Dally surveyed the scene without interest. "I ain't never been in the country before. Have you two?"
Johnny shook his head but I said, "Dad used to take us all huntin'. I've been in the country before. How'd you know about the church?"
"I got a cousin that lives around here somewheres. Tipped me off that it'd make a tuff hide-out in case of something." P. 86

A/N: I swear that in One Random Fact I completely forgot about Ponyboy's nail biting habit being in the book. I just made that up off of the top of my head, and what do you know? It was canon! I bet the Dally thing surprised you. Lots of people think that he was born in New York, and then I read that and I was like, WHAT? Crazy.
