thursday morning, 1985
they say you must have breakfast, its the most important meal of the day, i say if you have time in the morning go for it but if you're rushing who cares about it, and this morning i was rushing, breakfast was the last thing on my mind. i didn't even have time to tame my wild hair so i left it alone. staying awake and trying to teach jordan notes for the piano, through the house phone was a bad move, causing me only to get a total of 4 hours of sleep.
as i rushed down the hall i came to a halt, surprised to see my mother sitting at the kitchen table holding a mug of what i assumed was coffee, she was usually gone by the time i left for school. but i had no time to stop and chat. i swiftly placed a kiss on her forehead and dashed out the front door. surprisingly as i reached the bus stop the 23 was already there. silently thanking god, i hoped inside the moving vehicle and took the first available seat i seen.
running inside copley high school i was stunned at the fact that i wasn't that late, 6 minutes late to be precise and homeroom didn't even start yet. i went through the medal detectors without a problem and skipped up the 2 flights of stairs to my locker. i turned in my combination and slammed the door open with a huff. so far today was not my morning.
"look who decided to show up, its sleeping beauty." a voice sung. i didn't bother to respond i knew who it was. i could feel all 8 eyes burning holes in my back as i pulled out the books i needed.
"nice hair" donnie teased, toying with my crazy curls.i would have given him a witty come back but i was still half asleep, my brain wasn't in its sassy mind set just yet. "shut up" i mumbled, jerking my head to free donnies roaming fingers.
closing the locker doors with a clad i turned around to be greeted by 4 boys.
"don't listen to him, i like your hair" jordan tried, his voice was gracious and soft.
"im sure you do, loverboy" donnie scuffed, earning a high five from jonathan and danny. i gave jordan a tender smile and the other three a scolding look.
"thank you, at least someone here is nice."
we all started to walk down the halls slowly, the first bell didn't ring yet but it was going to pretty soon.
"so, why were you late?" danny asked, changing the subject."overslept" i shrugged, not really in the mood to tell them the whole story and thankfully they left the subject alone.
as the homeroom bell rung me danny and jordan broke up from the group and walked to our class.
"have fun with the freshmen!" donnie jokingly yelled down the hallway, making danny roll his eyes."i'll see you in math" jordan backfired, reminding donnie wahlberg that he too had atleast one class with people younger then him. throwing my head back in laughter, i continued walking with my boys, not bothering to see the annoyed look donnie most likely had on his face.
first period, 3rd period and lunch consisted on jordan, along with donnie trying to convince me to come along with them to the talent show, but they weren't convincing enough.
"when are you guys leaving?" i asked nobody in particular, just wanting an answer.
"6th period" danny replied. "you sure you don't wanna come? you're gonna miss our first performance" he whined.
i thought about it some more and although the thought of missing out on my boys big day struck me with a ping of sadness i couldn't skip class, it's not something i'm use too. "i'm sorry dan.." i hiccuped with guilt. the rest of the lunch period was spent in silence, nobody tried to change my mind and nobody spoke, the only noise around us was coming from other tables and a small boombox amplifying the voice of prince.
