Gray and Juvia didn't have a formal wedding. While they were dating, they went on a weekend trip to a casino just to spend two nights there and return. However, on the second night, Gray lost hold of Juvia and she got hold of a bunch of liquor. After getting drunk, she continuously sobs over the fact that Gray and her weren't engaged, thinking he didn't want to marry her despite them having been together over a year. Gray, desperate to soothe this girlfriend, rashly decides to elope at the moment, the couple returning married to everyone's surprise. Juvia regrets that she couldn't have had a formal wedding with all her friends present, but she was just happy to by Gray's wife.
