CHAPTER 17: IGNORANCE IS NOT AN EXCUSE

 Rin's POV

A word I can finally recognize. Daimyo. Although it isn't really a word that's used in the typical conversation of the twenty-first century. Then again, this isn't really a place that cares about the typical.

Shiori-sensei turns to Dai and Kei. "I presume you were speaking of Akihiko Satsukuro? Akihiko is not a very common name, so that must be him."

Before the two have a chance to even open their mouths to answer, Ichigo blurts, "It's impossible though. Think about it, sensei-- as an advisor, Akihiko wouldn't have the time to manage a terrorist group. The Daimyo keeps his advisors with him around the clock!"

Kei splutters, "We are not a terrorist group!"

"What she says is true," says Neji, ignoring Kei. "Though it is possible that someone is using this name in an attempt to diminish the real Akihiko's reputation. After all, even they know the name of their leader. That only further proves that this group wants his name to be known infamously."

Shiori-sensei waves her hand in the air, rolling her eyes. "Fine. It doesn't matter who exactly it is--"

"To us, it does," mutters Tenten under her breath.

"--because we're going to find Kyoko! Our mission is already finished. We only need Kyoko, and then we can return to the village," says Shiori-sensei.

"We shall come with you!" Guy declares, leaping to his feet energetically. "Our mission is to ensure the heinous drug production and trafficking ends once and for all. By infiltrating the Red Bandits' headquarters, we are sure to learn some information about this drug."

"Your logic is unmatched, sensei!" cries Lee.

"Lee!"

"Guy-sensei!"

"Lee--"

"You know, you actually sounded pretty smart. Then you ruined it," Shiori-sensei deadpans.

Guy drops to his knees and crawls into a corner, silently crying to himself once more.

"Oh, cry me a river," grumbles Shiori-sensei irritably. She heaves her bag over her shoulder and stares us down. "Well, let's go! There's no time to waste!"

"Hold on," Ichigo says, holding up her hands. "We're not prepared at all. We don't have a plan of any sort and we're all exhausted right now. We have to take our time."

Shiori-sensei's eyes widen as she blinks owlishly. "You--"

Ichigo clenches her fists. "If we go now, we might mess up our chances of safely retrieving her. We have no idea who we're going up against. We can't just barge in and expect everything to go perfectly well. You know that. Right, sensei?"

Shiori-sensei opens her mouth, then seems to remember something. Her face scrunches into itself. "You know what? Fine," she hisses. "Since the oh-so-great-and-wise Ichigo-san knows all."

She then throws herself to the ground, almost like a child throwing a tantrum, and turns her back to us angrily. "One hour," she says sullenly. "We'll rest for one hour. After that, we're leaving."

"Good enough," Ichigo smiles, letting her backpack drop from her shoulders.

Neji leans on a wall, close to the entrance, and stoicly stands there. Tenten sighs and sits a little ways from him, shutting her eyes. Lee and Guy flop onto the middle of the cave, flat on their backs, and immediately begin snoring.
