Chapter 14

-Aspen-

When I woke up I refused to move, Alaina and I changed positions and she was facing me and I had my arms around her. I looked down at her, she was so peaceful when she was sleeping, unlike her awake self. She began to stir and then her eyes opened. She looked up at me and seemed shocked that I was looking over her already.

"Aspen get off me." she said, pushing off my arms. She got up and walked away.

"Nooo," I groaned, "come back you were so peaceful!" She rolled her eyes and continued to fix her messy hair.

"Peace never stays." she stated. I rolled out of bed and into the hall. I looked through the closet that had all my mother's old dresses and picked out a cream colored one. I walked back into the bedroom and Alaina walked out. She took the dress carefully and began to admire it. She went into the washroom again to change into it. I changed into fresh clothes and then Alaina walked out.

She looked beautiful in the dress, although her skin made the dress look darker than it actually was.

"I have a meeting with my father and a few other people, we are discussing the matter of Bain and Riles's betrayal." I said.

"Who is Bain and Riles?" She asked.

"The guards who brought you here and tried to help the enemy in the ambush." I explained.

"Oh those dipshits. Yeah I remember them." she said. She got a look of fear in her eye after she said that and she caught her breath.

"Alaina, what is it?" I asked. She covered her mouth with her hand and sat on the bed.

"They know where my family is!" She exclaimed. Panic rose inside me, they could attack her family. An image of her little sister, Kara, laying in a pool of her own blood made its way into my mind.

"Oh my god, they do. Don't worry I'll send guards to protect them!" I promised. She nodded but still looked worried. The door opened and my gamma, Leo walked in.

"Alaina, this is our Gamma Leo. He will watch over you while I'm at the meeting." I said. She gave an evil smirk.

"What, you don't trust me by myself?" She asked giving a fake pout. I chuckled at her.

"No I don't, your too wild." I stated. She rolled her eyes at me.

"Me? Wild? Never!" She exclaimed, the sarcasm was painfully obvious in her voice. I rolled my eyes at her then smiled, so sarcastic! I left the room and walked down the halls. I didn't want to leave her and Leo alone together but I had to trust him. I walked into the meeting room to find everyone already waiting there. I came in and sat down in my chair next to my father.

"So now that everyone is here we can discuss the matter of the betrayal of Bain and Riles." my father began. We all nodded.

"Yes," one of the elders said, "I take it that they tried to help the Blue moon clan capture and/or kill Aspen and his mate." Everyone looked at me, expecting me to say something.

"Uhh, yeah. Bain and Riles attempted to have my mate and I killed. I don't know if they were traitors from the beginning or the Blue moon clan paid them to do it." I stated. All the men sighed but nodded, this meeting was getting nowhere.

"What do we know then your highness?" another elder asked.

I sighed, "That they may attack Alaina's family next." They all looked at me confused.

"How can you be sure?" my father asked.

"Bain and Riles were the ones who brought here, they know where her family is. They are not stupid enough to attack us again, they are going to attack the ones she loves because she will be driven mad by grief and may kill herself." I hated thinking that way but it must be true. That is the way the Blue moon clan thinks, they won't kill you they will kill the ones your close to so you'll do the dirty work to yourself. All the elders and my father looked down at their hands.

"You're right, I'll send the best guards to protect her family at once!" My father exclaimed. I felt relieved, but still felt unsettled at the same time. The elders nodded their heads in agreement to my fathers actions in saving her family. I looked into my father's mind, he was acting too generous towards my mate. I gave a loud growl at my father when I saw what he would do after he sends the guards. He would claim that it was his idea and he believed she would fall head over heals for him and blah blah blah. My growl grew louder and I felt my eyes turn gold, over my dead body he will ever touch her.

"Son calm down." my father demanded. I decided to mind link him.

'I know your intentions father, and you need to know that if you touch her I will kill you." I threatened through the link.

'Don't threaten me boy, I'm king and I can do whatever I want and you won't stop me.' he snarled.

'If you were so desperate for someone to love you,' I stated, 'you should've kept mom alive.' Suddenly my dad quickly got up, grabbed me, and threw me against a wall.

"YOU WILL NEVER SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT AGAIN!!!" He screamed into my face. I shoved him off and stomped out of the room.

'Leo I'm done with the meeting. I'd like Alaina back now.' I said through my mind link with Leo.

'On our way.' he replied. I paced in the hallway, my wolf was already on edge and they were taking too long in his standards. I began to worry Leo was taking my mate away from me instead. Finally Alaina and Leo walked down the hallway towards me. I marched over to them.

"Where have you been?" I demanded. Alaina snarled and glared at me.

"Calm down Aspen, its not like we were making out or anything." she snapped. I growled at the both of them.

"I will find out if you did, it should not have taken that long to get here!" I snapped back. She rolled her eyes at me.

"At least I'm still here, I could've easily have left!" She stated.

"I'm just going to go now." Leo said quietly before running down the halls like his life depended on it, which it probably did. I growled at him, promising to myself to deal with him later and turned my attention to Alaina again.

"What have I said about you talking about leaving me." I hissed, my wolf was beginning to take control.

"As far as I'm concerned," she stated, "it was not important because you can't command me." My wolf took full control and I slapped her across the face. Her yelp of pain brought my human self back into control but only partially, I was still angry. She was holding the left side of her face which was rapidly turning red, suddenly she whipped around and ran off down the halls. I finally came into full control and realized that I just hit my mate.

"Shit, what have I done?" I asked myself quietly before chasing after her. She came into my sight and I began to gain speed.

"Alaina! Wait!" I called, I was advancing quickly.

"Fuck you!" She yelled back. She entered into a side room quickly, I stopped dead in my tracks but I heard a little click meaning she just locked the door. I was going to kick down the door when I realized which room she ran into, my mothers old bedroom before she died. Alaina locked herself in the one room I couldn't bare to break down, great! How am I going to get her now?

I paced in front of the door and occasionally pressed my ear up against it for what seemed like an hour until I heard a little click again, she unlocked the door! I opened the door to see my mate look as white as a ghost.

"What happened to your mother?" She asked. My heart dropped and I felt the blood go out of my face.
