Amy glanced at herself in her mirror and gasped.
"What do you think?" Penny asked.
"I look..." Amy's voice trailed off as she looked at the girl staring back at her with a shell-shocked expression on her face. "absolutely..."
Penny bit her lip nervously. Back in high school, she was paid to dole out fashion advice. And she never had anyone told her her fashion sense was bad, or not suited to the individual's taste.
"Princessy," Amy blurted out.
"Princessy?"
"Yes, and I must say I like it a whole lot." Amy blushed, adjusting the rhinestone tiara on her forehead. She knew Sheldon had given it to her, but she still liked it a lot and couldn't bear to part with it even though they'd broken up. "Penny, did cheerleaders have secret fashion lessons with Hollywood celebrities while we nerds were having AP classes and doing late-night study programmes in school?" she asked seriously.
" I can't say, can I." Penny winked. "I'm glad you liked it."
"Oh!" Amy almost dropped the makeup set when she saw the price. "Uhh, on second thought, I'll just stick to buying the clothes. I can't do makeup properly anyway."
"Too late. Already got them." Penny held up a few paper bags gleefully.
"Penny..."
"Ok, we'll share them if you want. Don't feel bad, I'll probably use more than half of them. It's just an excuse for me to treat myself." Penny grinned sheepishly.
Amy smiled warmly, knowing how hard Penny worked to get her only source of income from waitressing. "Thank you very much... bestie." Amy blurted out.
"Bestie?" Penny said light-heartedly, but her heart felt good and warm.
"Well, no other girl or person has ever shown such kindness towards me. Besides, isn't this what best friends do for each other?" Amy answered.
"Aw sweetie." Penny hooked her arm through Amy's. Half a day of interaction with Amy was enough to make Penny feel that Amy could make a good friend too, despite her lack of fashion smarts and how they were basically different on every level imaginable. She took a deep breath. Maybe now would be a good time to tell her the truth and she would understand. "Amy, I-"
A phone rang out to the tune of the Star Wars theme song. Penny could recognise it for some strange reason.
"Sorry Penny, I have to go now." Amy apologised.
"Oh, that's alright." A sudden wave of sadness washed over her. "I have to prep for the science class later anyway. Uh, on my own," she quickly added, in case Amy got the wrong idea that she was using this as an excuse to see Sheldon.
"If you need any help at all, feel free to text me." Amy smiled. "Bernadette has my number. Well actually, you could ask her, since science's pretty much up her alley too."
Penny hesitated. "Uh, Bernie gets kind of riled up when I don't know stuff."
Amy looked at her in disbelief. "'Riled up' is hardly enough to describe her state of agitation whenever she thinks I'm ignorant too. I'd rather labor under misconceptions than face her disapproving and merciless glare."
Penny giggled.
"Anyway, I'll see you soon, hopefully." Amy smiled and went off.

"You're getting cold feet." Leonard frowned as he leaned against the frame of Amy's door to her apartment.
"No, I... I just think it is morally wrong to manipulate someone like this, especially when she's being so nice to me." Amy shuffled her feet.
"You didn't think this way when Sheldon broke up with you, did you," Leonard said, a little too harshly. "Don't you still like him?"
Amy's heart throbbed painfully when she saw the puppy-face expression of her ex boyfriend in her mind."I do harbor feelings for him up til now. But what if we were really not meant to be? After all, love is mutual."
"Amy... I believe he's confused. He treated you like a gentleman when you were dating him, right?"
"I don't know, Leonard. I don't want to hurt you by saying this, but she hasen't talked much about you too."
"Are you sure you even brought up my name when you were going shopping with her?" Leonard said accusingly.
"I didn't." Amy confessed. "But you're not making progress on Sheldon, are you?"
"Actually, I asked him to tell me more about Penny and he does have things about her he doesn't quite like.' Leonard said. 'And you're going to work at CalTech soon too, aren't you?'
'Yes. I was hoping we would bond over our shared interest and niche area of science.'
'Well, keep working on it. I have a theory that Penny is merely attracted to Sheldon's smarts. After all, she hasen't been dating exceptionally bright guys. So I'll just have to match Sheldon on the same level. I offered to take her on a tour around CalTech and she accepted.' Leonard said happily.
'Alright then. As bad as I feel, I suppose I have the right to pursue who I want to. ' Amy said firmly.
a/n: ooh! Amy doesn't feel good about taking advantage /manipulating Penny but Leonard thinks otherwise.... how will it all turn out?
