I found this idea from stinkykittypet on Tumblr and I reblogged bc I really wanna write it so ! Here we are enjoy, s2 setting again + this will be in like 3 parts

"I need your help with something."

Donnie picks his head up in an instant at his brother's voice. To see his older brother barge into his lab with a pout and a red face to ask for help—he doesn't think there's anything more entertaining to pay attention to.

"Oh?" Donnie teases, lying his chin atop his fist. "The big, bad, 'I-can-do-everything-myself,' Hamato Raphael needs his dorky little brother's help?"

"Shut up before I smack the green off o'you," Raph snaps, only causing said younger brother to laugh at him.

"Sorry, sorry," though the scientist isn't really. "What do you need?"

Raph shuffles his feet awkwardly for a moment, his face becoming nearly the color of his mask and Donnie thinks there's nothing that can hurt his pride right now.

"How do you get over someone you don't have a chance with?"

Well, Donnie thinks to himself, watching his shorter brother's eyes shining expectantly, there's my karma for the day.

"Ouch," is what he says aloud, though it doesn't seem to affect Raph at all. "Where is this coming from?"

Raph shrugs before shuffling his feet again, staring at the floor while he collects his thoughts.

"I know you're still not over April," and it feels like the metaphorical knife in Donnie's chest is being twisted, "and, well, I thought we could get out of this together."

"Ooh," Donnie exclaims suddenly, stretching the sound out before leaning in closer, "does wittle Waphael have a wittle cwush?"

"I'm seriously going to hurt you, Don," and the genius can only laugh harder at his brother's embarrassment and reddening face all over again.

"I'm sorry, seriously," and he means it a little more than the previous time he said it. "Who is it? Maybe you have more of a shot than you say you do."

Raph swallows hard, clenching and easing his fists to try to ease himself.

"I...don't think you'd approve."

Donnie feels his heart tighten—he can only hope this isn't the same type of rabbit hole Leo almost fell into.

"Is she part of the Foot?"

"No."

"Kraang?"

"Gross—no."

"Just making sure!" Donnie says quickly, throwing his hands up in defense for a moment. "Give me a hint: am I hot or cold?—friend or foe?"

"I'm not Leo, Donnie," the hothead teases with a laugh, though his lack of confidence still stands. "You're just, uh...colder than you might expect."

The genius hums in thought as he tries to decipher Raph's hints.

"Colder than I might expect," Donnie echos, beginning to pace as he strokes his chin. "So that has to mean friend, or at least ally, and the only way to get closer than that would be us, as your brothers, or Splinter—"

"I think that's worse than liking the Kraang," Raph interrupts with a gag.

"Precisely. So, the only other part I could possibly be colder about," and the way Raph's fidgeting increases with the color red on his face puts a smirk on Donnie's face, "would be my usage of the 'she' pronoun."

Raph's face is the same color of his mask by now, and he flips a sweatshirt hood over his eyes, one that Donnie is only just now noticing he's wearing, and that very clearly belongs to—

"You have a crush on Casey!"

"Never mind," Raph says quickly, stepping towards the entryway and feeling like he's about to die on the spot of sheer embarrassment. "This is dumb, I—I shouldn't've brought it up."

"Get back here," Donnie orders lightly, grabbing his smaller brother by the shoulder and gently tugging him back. "I'm just having fun, I'm sorry."

Still, Raph can't seem to shake his embarrassment, though he does as told and hangs out a while. When he sees that Raph is still willing to receive his help, Donnie gets back to his project from before he was interrupted.

"Now that that's settled," the younger begins, playing around with some chemicals in front of him, "you said this is someone you know you don't have a chance with. Is Casey into guys at all?"

"I don't know," Raph admits, and it sounds like he's covering his face a bit. "They're humans—I know he's not into giant, mutant freaks."

Donnie puts the chemical tubes down, feeling that metaphorical knife return to his heart—this time, it might as well be poisoned, though the pain is shared with his brother. It's something they've all dealt with, that deep insecurity that comes with them being alive that they're stuck with one another and Splinter and their only future is their present with the sewers—

"Besides," Raph continues, unknowingly cutting off his brother's spiral, "we don't know if April's into guys, either."

Admittedly, Donnie would much rather focus on that than what his spiral was about to lead him down.

"You're right," comes the grumbled response, safely and quickly putting his project away before beginning to pace again. "Even if she does, it's really difficult to get anywhere with that pesky, little—"

Donnie feels an idea strike him like lightning, picking his head up from looking at the floor and a wide grin overcoming his face. Raph, looking on, is almost afraid of what his younger brother has to say.

"Maybe we can solve each other's problems," says Donnie, turning to face his brother quickly as his wild grin grows. "Casey can't be going after April if he's with you."

Raph uses the sleeves covering his hands—"sweater paws", he thinks Casey's called them—to try to casually cover the blush overcoming his face again as he bites back a dopey smile at the thought of dating Casey Jones.

"On the other hand," Donnie continues, ignoring the other's flustered expression, "April can't be going after Casey if I'm with her."

The brothers share a knowing look, and Donnie knows now that they're thinking the same thing.

"So, just to be sure: you want us to play wingman with each other?"

"Exactly! I try to set you up with Casey, you try to set me up with April! It's a win-win!"

"If they like us."

"If they like men," Donnie corrects, earning an amused eye-roll from his brother.
