CHAPTER 4: FISHING GUILD
Over the next few weeks, I began to pay more attention to S3v each time he came online. There was something about him that intrigued me but I didn't know what. We hung out in the clan chat but he was a man of few words. I was never attracted to the strong and silent type but with S3v, I found myself constantly wondering about who he really was. The more I thought about him, the more I wanted to know him. I can't explain it. It's like that Hindustan film I've seen once. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, something happened to the heart. And I think something is happening to mine.
One rainy afternoon, my brother was hogging the television remote and I found myself in front of my computer. Might as well play Lifescape, I thought to myself.
Ladylurve has logged in.
Current players on clan chat: S3v3rian
S3v3rian : Hello Lady. :)
I looked at my computer screen again and felt a tinge of excitement to find him all alone in the clan chat. Funny how the person you've been thinking about is suddenly online. All alone. Like destiny is just waiting to occur... Ok fine, he's all I've been thinking about lately! This destiny was bound to occur! This is already beginning to sound less romantic.
Anyhow, this would be the perfect time to get to know the real him a little better. The thing about clan chatting is that there is usually a crowd of other players. Most of the time all of us would be goofing around, teasing each other, and chatting about the game itself. Despite spending many hours being online together, at the end of the day, we hardly know the real person behind each avatar. That is what private chats are for. For those who would prefer to communicate without others reading the chat logs as well. Until now, I have not done that with any of the clan chat players. Yes, not even with Goat_34. He's been hitting on me in the clan chat but when that is as far as it goes, you basically know there's nothing serious about it. After all, Lifescape is just a game. And it remains a game.
*beep* Chat updated.
S3v3rian : wuu2?
The term 'wuu2' is short for 'what you up to' with the 'are' missing but understood to be there. I stared at my screen and worked on deciding the best way to seize this opportunity. Or maybe I should just do like the Latin phrase from a poem written by Horace: carpe diem. Seize the day! Giggling to myself, I thought of seizing his day and laughed at the absurdity of the meaning.
Ladylurve : umm, not much. What about you?
S3v3rian : I'm just training my fishing skills at the Fishing Guild.
That's my cue, I thought to myself. If I really want to seize his day, I should hop server and meet his avatar at the Fishing Guild. Meet for the very first time.
Ladylurve : brb!
I said be right back and hopped server. This is going to sound stupid. Even though it's just an online thing, my heart was pounding faster. Just anticipating meeting him at the Fishing Guild was so exciting for me. When the server logged me in, I purposely stayed off the clan chat and teleported to the Fishing Guild. There I was standing at the gate, about to meet this coffee and bagel heartthrob and everything was going just as I planned.
As I moved my avatar towards the gates of the Fishing Guild, my brains worked quickly and tonnes of pick-up lines and phrases were gushing out like water at the Niagara Falls. I pictured surprising him and how he would smile and be so wonderfully happy to see me there. Then we would spend hours chatting and getting to know each other better.
And I most certainly assured you that THAT would have happened if I had took the time to improve my fishing levels to gain access to the Fishing Guild. And the Fishermen's Nets quest too for that matter. Urm... and complete my collection of the different fishing hooks and baits, which were part of the requirements to access the DAMN FISHING GUILD!!! I clicked on the gates, yet again.
You do not have the required level to access the Fishing Guild.
You have not completed the Fishermen's Nets quest.
You have not collected all the items required in order to have access to the Fishing Guild.
Arrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhh! I banged my head against the keyboard, looked again at the gates of the Fishing Guild and logged out.
