Special Nights

Luke's POV:

Our friends picked us up and we headed out to some fancy restaurant. I wanted this to be over. I had something special planned for us after the dinner and I couldn't wait. This was killing me.

We sat down at the table and ordered mimosas. Em got lucky and the waiter didn't ID her. Everyone was shocked that she wasn't already 21.

"You seem like you're 23!" Tod laughed.

"Thanks?" Em laughed. I downed my drink. "Luke. You can't chug your alcohol. I am not in the mood to deal with your drunk sorry ass." Em scolded me quietly while putting a death grip on my hand. I sighed and called the waiter over.

"What would you like sir?" He asked. I went to order a beer, but Em cut me off.

"He'll get a coke." Em looked up at the waiter. I rolled my eyes and nodded. The waiter walked away. "I need to speak with Luke privately. We'll be right back." Em stood up and dragged me along with her. We stopped at the edge of the restaurant.

"You need to knock off the attitude Luke. What has gotten into you? Are you PMSing?" She asked. I didn't answer. "Answer me!" She shouted softly and hit me across the chest with the cloth napkin she was still holding.

"I'm sorry. I just don't want to be here. I'm anxious." I sighed, knowing I just gave away what I had planned for tonight.

"For what?" Em's posture was relaxed now. She was calmer.

"I- never mind. Let's just go back to the table." I started back towards the table. She followed silently.

Em's POV:

What was Luke anxious about? Was it for me? Did I just screw this whole thing up?

I sat silently at the table as we ate. Jen and Amy all made conversation. Luke spoke every now and then.

Finally dinner ended and Amy and Tod insisted on paying the bill. We all got up and headed to our separate vehicles. Luke and I said our goodbyes and headed towards the truck.

"Luke?" I said softly as he opened my door. Even when he was pissed he was still a gentleman.

"Yeah?" He sighed. I could tell he was tired.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have got mad at you. You're a grown man." I apologized and looked up at him. He nodded and got in his side.

The radio played softly as Luke drove us back to his apartment. My mind was rustling with thoughts and worries. The ride was silent and we finally parked in the lot in front of his building.

"I'll be right up. Here's the key." Luke handed me the key and turned off the truck.

"Okay." I mumbled and got out of the truck. What did I do?

Luke's POV:

I sat in the truck and watched Emilee's silhouette fade up the stairs. I pulled out my cellphone and called Kelly.

"Hey Luke." Her voice sounded through the phone. An instant rush of relief shot through me.

"H-hey Kel." I started to choke up.

"What's wrong little brother?" She asked softly.

"It's Em. I think I hurt her feelings." I stuttered a little bit. A few tears escaped my eyes.

"It's gonna be okay. What happened?" She reassured.

"She got mad at me for drinking a mimosa too fast and I kinda ignored her the rest of the night." I was crying now. Why was I so stupid?

"Aw Luke. It's gonna be okay. I don't know what to tell you, but just make sure she knows that you love her. It'll turn out fine." Kelly said through the phone.

"Okay Kel." I attempted to speak.

"I love you Luke. And if that doesn't work, call Chris. He's screwed up with chicks plenty of times. He'll know what to do." Kelly smiled and laughed at the end.

"I love you too. Thanks." I hung up and got out of the truck. I locked it and went up to the apartment. As soon as I got in I heard Em crying in the bedroom. I grabbed the CD I made from the kitchen cabinet and made my way to the bedroom. I didn't say a word. Just put the disk in the DVD player and hit play.

"What is that?" Em sniffled.

"Sh. Don't ask any questions. Em I love you. A lot. I hope you know that I wouldn't do anything to hurt you. I'm so sorry." I hugged her and kissed her head.

"I love you too Luke." She turned her attention to the Tv screen.
