After a few hours, I finally start to cool off. I look at the clock, it's 12. Mandy walks in. "Mia, practice in 10 minutes." She informs, I nod. I put on my shoes and head to the gym, then I enter the girl'a locker room and put on my cheerleading outfit. The other cheerleaders were in the gym doing routines. I walk up to Mandy. "So what I'm I exactly supposed to do?" I ask, coughing straight after.
"Are you coming down with something?"
"No, just a dry throat."
"Here." A redhead in the cheerleading uniform hands me a water bottle.
"Thanks."
"Oh yeah, Mia this is Christy." Mandy introduced.
"Nice to meet you."After an hour and a half
Cheerleading practice is actually fun, however it got ruined when he walked in. Coach Pedo himself. "Okay girlies make place for the wrestling matts." He ordered. A few minutes later to boys came out both wearing those weird wrestling outfits. One was a fat kid and the other was Jimmy.
"Hey is that the new kid?" Christy asked.
"Yeah." I assured.
"Oh he's the one you were talking about earlier." Mandy joins in.
"Okay, you know the rules it's wrestling time." Coach Pedo announces. Jimmy and the fat kid start wrestling, wow he's pretty good. He takes out the fat kid out in a few minutes. "Well newbie I guess you're not bad, for a girl." Mr Burton spoke. He did not just say that, being a feminist I get offended by comments like that. Mr Burton notices me and smiles, i stiffen up. Mandy catches attention to this and grabs my arm and drags me to the girl locker room. I was still stiff even out of his range of view. "Mia snap out if it." She waves her hand in my face. "Come on, you have ten seconds before I slap you." I snap out of it.
"Sorry, guess I'm still afraid of that pedo."
"Come on M, he can't do anything to you."
"That's not why I'm afraid, I'm afraid of seeing those yellow teeth of his again."
"Are you serious?" She shoves me.
"Hey when it comes to teeth I'm obsessed why do you think mine are so white?"
"You brush them. Anyway, cheerleading practice is over."
"Okay." I take off my cheerleading outfit and put on my school uniform. "Oh yeah Mandy I was meant to ask you, does coach make comments like that all the time?"
"You mean the one about how Jimmy is a good fighter for a girl?"
"Yeah."
"He does that all the time."
"Well sexist people like him should shut their mouths."
"I agree, but it won't make a difference. Oh yeah that reminds me Mia do you have any plans this Friday?"
"No, why?" We walks out the girl'a locker room.
"Because you're going on a double date with me and Ted."
"Huh? But I don't have a date."
"Yeah you do, with Kirby."
"Who?"
"He's part of the football team, he told Ted that he thought you were hot so we arranged a double date."
"Without my permission. I'm not going."
"Come on, it's just one date."
"Don't care. I'm not interested."
"So what I'm I supposed to do with Kirby by telling him you're not coming you'll break his heart, do you really want to do that to someone Mia?"
"Are you trying to guilt trip me?"
"Is it working?"
"Yes." I sigh with defeat. "Where?"
"At the carnival."
"This town has a carnival?"
"Don't raise you're hopes, it's not that impressive."
"Figures."
"Hey Mia," Jimmy, who recently just changed into his school uniform, walked up to us. "You dropped this again." He holds up my bracelet.
"Oh thanks." I take it. "Mandy this is Jimmy, Jimmy this is Mandy."
"Nice meeting you." He waves before putting his hands in his pocket and walking away.
"First boy who doesn't try and hit on me." Mandy responds.
"Don't be upset, it's because he has a bored and uninterested exterior."
"Who said I'm upset, I'm just interested in his response."
"Which is the opposite of how he feels about you." I tease.
"Shut up."
"Don't let Ted see you eyeing another guy."
"As if." She shoves me and walks away.
"Hey I was just teasing-" I call out after her but start coughing. Maybe it's not just a dry throat... probably not. I continue to follow Mandy. After I'm done with my homework, I open my laptop and look thought my emails, predictably no messages from my mum. I didn't have much friends back at my old school, well schools, I was kind of a loner. Ironic, huh? A lot of people tried to befriend me on my first day, after a week they stopped trying when they figured out that I'm not an open book or a book at all.
"Hey have you seen the school website?" Mandy asks.
"This school has a website?"
"I'll take that as a no. You probably wanna see what's on it." She gets out of her bed and search a link on my laptop. The school symbol appears, Mandy then types 'New girl' and a picture of me appears. It was on my first day. "How did they get this?"
"Come on, a hot new face on campus people will take pictures anyway you should read the comments."
"Why?"
"They all say you're hot and mysterious. This is so cool, it's like having you're very own fan club. Obviously I'm use to this kind of stuff,"
"Obviously." I teasingly imitate.
"But even I didn't have a fan club that fast. I'll have to be more careful or you might take my place."
"Not a chance." I close the page. "I don't care how people view, whether it's positive or negative, beside you're prettier than me. Now if you'll excuse me I have to study for a quiz coming up in the library."
"Eww, that's the nerd hangout. Mia seriously stay away from there."
"Paranoid much? I'm just going to stay there for a few hours. I'll be back before curfew." I grab my bag and walk out.
"I swear if you come back a nerd you're sleeping in the halls today."
"Whatever."
