          You know, I LOVE snily, but ship Jily, because Lily left her only best friend for the maruaders. If lily was a true friend, she did forgive severus and accpect him the way he was. Severus just deserved someone better.

i don't think she necessarily left snape for the marauders. she left him because she finally understood that things he was doing were wrong and she didn't want to deal with it anymore. the slur he called her was the catalyst to their cracking friendship so she broke it off for herself and her health. their friendship was kind of toxic, ngl, especially with snape thinking that he was practically entitled to her attention and him believing that they would stay friends even if he was still insulting people who had the same upbringing as her. i think it was sensible that she broke it off with him because it would've impacted them both negatively, snape not realising his wrongs and lily having a horrible best friend.
