Clarkson Black

Who am I? To answer that question you must ask who is 'Kasper Karter', the star of my stories and of my debut novel, 'Wants, Tightrope, Spilt Milk'.

Kasper, like me, is a Sydneysider and, just like me, he also happens to be a teacher. He's young, in his mid-twenties, but he doesn't feel it, or at least he doesn't feel the benefits of such youth. 

In his thoughts life is slipping away, or more precisely the chance to be something, to make a name for himself. 

Fame is what he wants, to never be forgotten. Am I the same?

Well, one way that we both differ is that I am not a murderous psycho who thinks that killing his own students in the most horrific way possible will show the world that we are but animals confined by society, and that all our wants are there for the taking, if only we allow our natural selves to take them.

In the vein of three of my favourite books, American Psycho, In Cold Blood, and Crime and Punishment, I sought to create a character who on the one hand is as human as you and I, yet on the other lives a life that some of us only encounter in our nightmares.

Why? Why not.
