Jerry Ring was born on Dublin's Northside in 1943 and spent his childhood summers in rural Ireland among the green hills and valleys leading to Lough Derg, one of Ireland's biggest lakes. He now lives near the port of Dun Laoghaire, in south Dublin .

He has a wide career experience. A bicycle factory, RTE the Irish Television Service , the hotel industry in Ireland, England and mainland Europe. As a Company Secretary to 23 companies, the oil crisis of 1973/4 triggered the collapse of the group. After a period of unemployment In the late 70s he joined the inward investment agency, IDA Ireland. While based in Amsterdam he began his writing career in 1990, with magazine articles, award winning short stories for radio and co-authored a book of Irish and American anagrams, "In Other Words". His principal current literary work is his novel "Mokum Legacy". During his time living in the Netherlands he came across many stories of personal tragedy and heroism during World War II. This novel is based on one of those stories.
