I'm so sorry for the really late update! Please don't hate me, school had me imprisoned in it's web of forced work.
Disclaimer!
I do NOT own any Tokyo Ghoul characters!
"You have to stay away from her." The old man said. "Why? What about Hide? Do I have to stay away from him too?" Kaneki asked feeling confused. "Now that you say it, yes. Hide too." The old man said lost in thought."If you don't want to hurt them, stay away from them. It's the only way to protect your friends." The old man turned around and started fidgetting with the coffee machine.
"By the way, now that you'll be working here, feel free to call me manager." The olde man, Manager, said facing Kaneki again, this time with a cup of coffee in his hands. "Coffee?" He said pushing the cup filled with warm brown liquid towards Kaneki.
"Uh... Thank you?" Kaneki said, his voice filled with doubt. "What's wrong boy?" Manager asked with a sigh. "Well, it just bothers me that... That you just told me to stay away from the only important people I have left, as if you were telling me to go buy milk." Kaneki said fast.
As Kaneki was calming down, Manager went to stand next to him. "Kaneki, I know how you feel. We've all had to leave someone to protect them."
"Well then, now that you'll be working here, I might as well give you a key. Close this place up will you?"Manager said as he stood up to walk away. Kaneki just sat there, nodding slightly.
"So I guess he's not even going to let me think about that deal huh? Kaneki mumbled to himself.
Kaneki stood up and looked at the key that was resting on the counter. He took it and started to head towards the door.
Just as Kaneki stuck out his hand to open the door, a scent entered his nose. It smelled... Delicious. Just like a bloodhound he followed his nose to the place the scent came from.
There he stood. The scent was strong here and Kaneki found it hard to stay calm at this point. His hand was reaching for the lock when footsteps echoed through the empty hallway.
"Kaneki? You're still here?" The manager's voice said. Stay still Kaneki he thought. "Kaneki I can smell you, there's no point in staying still." Kaneki could see a shadow start to doom up, and short after a silhouette at the other end of the corridor.
"You know, when I said close up I meant the door the customers use to enter." Manager chuckled.
"Uh yeah, sorry. I just... Uh-I..." Kaneki stuttered. "You could smell something. I know." Manager completed the sentence and walked up to the door, opened it, and entered the dark room behind it.
When the door opened a wave of that delicious scent entered Kaneki's nose. "Manager? What is that smell? It smells so... Good." Kaneki said taking in the smell like a dog.
"What you don't know, Kaneki, is that Anteiku provides food to ghouls that don't want to hunt, or that can't hunt." Manager's voice resonated from inside the room.
"Then you hunt?" Kaneki asked shocked. No answer followed. Manager exited the room holding a package. "This is for you Kaneki. Open it when you're hungry." He said shoving the package into Kaneki's hands.
"What is it?" Kaneki asked afraid. "Don't be scared. As I said, it's for when you're hungry."Manager said patting Kaneki softly on the back.
Finally Kaneki nodded and walked away, the manager's eyes fixed on the back of his head.
