Chapter 27: The Tenth Question: All or Nothing!

Naruko's POV

"All right, listen up," Ibiki suddenly said. "Here's the tenth and final question.

<Here we go.> Naruto thought. <Everything's riding on this one. Believe it.>

<Don't worry, Naruto.> I reassured him the best I could. <You'll be just fine.>

<Man, this guy is full of himself.> Sasuke thought.

<Takes one to know one, huh?> I asked him. I could feel him mentally glaring at me since I was sitting behind him.

<This is it.> Sakura thought. <The Final obstacle.>

"But, before I give you the question, there are some more rules that you need to be aware of," Ibiki said. I could feel the tension in the room, even from all the way in the back.

<Even more rules?> Haku asked me. <I wonder what they could be. He's already laid so many rules out there for the test, I'm not sure there can be any more of them. Naruko?>

<I'm not sure...> I admitted. <I have a theory, but we'll learn the answer in a minute.>

"Huh?" I heard Kankuro behind me ask as he walked back into the room.

"Ah, made it just in time," Ibiki said.

<Don't tell me he knew...> I shuddered a little.

"I hope you found your trip to the bathroom enlightening," Ibiki smirked. I shuddered at the thought again, but smirked a little at the same time, noticing the hint in his sentence.

<He's seen through the crow's disguise.> I heard Kankuro think. <He's onto us.> 'Of course, he did.' I thought. 'It's not that hard to sense, spot, or recognize a puppet master's chakra. If you know how.'

"Well, take your seat," Ibiki said. Kankuro walked past Temari on his way to his seat, not even looking at her, but I could tell he did something, even from across the room, and knowing him and his skills. "These rules are unique to question 10. Listen carefully and try not to let them frighten you."

<I see.> Haku said. <I think you're right, Naru.>

<Quiet, Haku.> I told him. <He knows my abilities. He caught me infiltrating his thoughts.>

<Impressive.> I felt him smirk.

Kakashi's POV

"It's quiet without the Rookies around," I said. "I almost miss 'em."

"Don't worry," Asuma said. "Chances are they'll be back again sooner than you think."

"Why's that?" I asked him. I waited silently as he flicked the burnt end of his cigarette.

"I heard that their first examiner this year is Ibiki," he said. I hummed a little as I sat up a little. 'So, already their chances of passing look iffy.' I thought.

"Great, sticking them with that sadist right off the bat," I said, leaning back in my seat, propping my elbow on the back behind me.

"What sadist?" Kurenai asked. Asuma chuckled.

"I forgot you're a new Jonin, Kurenai," Asuma said. "Otherwise you wouldn't have to ask that."

"So, I'm ignorant," she said semi-sharply. "Who is he?"

"He's what you might call a specialist," I said.

"Oh yeah?" she asked. "In what?" Asuma took a long pull from his cigarette before turning his head to her.
