prompt: swing kids era! christian bale
the morning air was crisp and cool, the sky grey and cloudy. you had woken up excited to spend the chilly saturday in a local coffee shop with your new book, but as you rounded the corner you noticed that the usually calm and quiet shop was now busy as ever, with multiple men and women dressed in black jackets with the word "CREW" printed on the backs in large, stark white lettering. you sighed at the thought of having to fight your way through the crowd just to order let alone find a table but decided to try anyway. stumbling and swerving out of the way of steaming to-go cups and boxes of pastries, you finally found yourself in line and behind only a few men dressed in warm coats and dress pants, the outfits seemed outdated but you decided to ignore it as you looked over the menu. the group of men moved out of your way and you finally got a look at their faces, all extremely handsome and smiling as they made conversation with one another. you stepped up to order a drink and a pastry hoping that between the two, you might be able to warm up. you moved over to the wall by the counter where the baristas placed orders, finally allowing yourself to bask in the wonderful smells that wafted through the air, the scent of freshly ground coffee beans and warm cinnamon buns made you sigh in content. standing against the wall, you opened up your book and began reading, waiting for your name to be called. the small chuckles of men and the strong woodsy scent of a cologne flooded your senses as you felt something sweep against your side. "oh shit! i am so sorry!" you heard a gentle voice with an english accent say as you slightly stumbled from the impact. you glanced up from the words on the cream colored pages, it was one of the young men you had seen earlier. he was dressed in those outdated clothes, but as you met his eyes you finally began to take in what he looked like. his light brown hair looked as though it had been styled with gel hours ago, but it had begun to fall into small curls around his head. his eyebrows had a natural arch to them that complimented his deep brown eyes, that were currently crowded with a slight concern, and his face was angular with a sharp jaw to match. he was truly a sight. "oh! that's okay, don't worry about it" you replied softly, still admiring him and wondering why he looked so familiar, surely you would have recognized such a handsome man! "i didn't spill any coffee on you did i?" he questioned, still concerned that he somehow caused you a major inconvenience. "no, no you're fine!" you responded, trying to make sure that this handsome stranger wasn't in distress over a small accident. at this point the other men that had been with him had moved on to talk to some of the labeled "crew". "okay good! i would have hated to know i ruined a beautiful girls day." he smiled softly. at that you felt yourself heat up, no longer cold from the chilly morning air that seemed to be coming and going every time the door to the shop was opened. "you're sweet" you giggled and looked down at the book in your hands, trying to stop your staring. "do you know what is going on? i mean with all these people here and their uniforms?" you asked, attempting to keep the conversation going, just to hear his sweet honey-like voice again. "oh! yeah, uh we're shooting a movie" it was his turn to become shy, turning his head down, letting a few more hairs fall loose from the gel. "that's a great book by the way" his large hand that was not holding a to go cup, was now pointing at your copy. "is it? i just bought it, i was hoping to read it here today" you say as you lift the book up slightly. "i'm sorry, i don't mean to be rude, but you seem so familiar, have we met before?" you added. "um well..." his face seemed to fall slightly like he had a secret and you had uncovered it. "i'm an actor, like i said, but um my name is christian" his voice lowering to almost a whisper when he spoke his name. you tilted your head, racking your brain as to why you might know him and then it hit you! this was christian bale! the handsome, british actor who had girls of all ages fawning over his looks and his talents. your eyebrows shot up, in surprise and your mouth opened slightly. "oh my god! duh! now i know why i recognize you, you're THAT christian." you whispered back in order to respect his obvious wish for privacy from any eavesdropping. "yeah.." he trailed off scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. "don't worry, your i won't tell anyone i met you, i get that you need privacy and probably are dealing with fans swarming you after filming". at this he met your eyes, "really?" he asked almost shocked that someone would do that for him, even when they weren't required to. "yeah! of course". "well, thank you. i appreciate that" his smile seemed genuine and his shoulders relaxed from their previous tensed state. "y/n!" the light shout of your name from the barista made you and christian turn your heads towards the source. "oh that's mine!" you responded to the young girl who was placing your order on the counter. as you grabbed both your drink and pastry, christian followed, lightly grabbing your hand that was clutched around your book. "i'd love to take you out for lunch later today, as an apology for bumping into you earlier. and as a thank you for not drawing anymore attention to me when you figured out who i was". his voice seemed more confident and yet still carried that soft tone as if he wasn't sure if it was okay to invite you or not. "i'd love that" you smiled softly back at the tall man. "perfect!" his voice was a little louder now, he frantically looked around and tapped a small women with one of the "CREW" jacket on, he smiled and spoke to her, but you were unable to make out what he had said. the woman smiled and nodded as she stuck a hand in the pocket of the jacket and pulled out a pen. he gave her a smile and tapped her lightly on the arm in thanks. he returned to you quickly and grabbed the white paper cup that held your drink, and began scribbling something on it. he then capped the pen and set the drink back in your hand, gave you a light smile and said "i have to go but i'll see you later!" as he was ushered out the door with the last of the large group. your face dropped in confusion and slight disappointment. how were you supposed to meet up for lunch? you didn't know where he was filming, didn't have a number to call and he didn't have yours either! you sighed and made your way over to a corner table that was lit up by the string of light bulbs that hung above. after setting your snack, drink and book down you plopped into your chair with a defeated sigh. however, as you glanced at your drink, you saw what he had written. in black marker, and a loopy font was the name of a local hotel with a room number on it and a small smiley face, just below that read "meet me here at 1:00 -christian".
