To me the Skywalker lightsaber has to be reforged.
"All that is gold does not glitter. Not all those who wander are lost. The old that is strong does not wither. Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken. A light from the shadows shall spring. Renewed shall be the blade that was broken. The crownless again shall be king."
This is one of my favorite quotes from the Lord of the Rings. I think that part of this quote applies to the Skywalker lightsaber. "Renewed shall be the blade that was broken." The Skywalker lightsaber could actually be the Skywalker that rises. The Skywalker lightsaber could play an important role in Episode IX. Like Aragorn's sword in the Return of the King. The Skywalker lightsaber could be the key to stopping Palpatine. I love Rey, she's one of my favorite characters. But I personally feel that Ben should be the one to stop Palpatine, if Luke or Anakin can't do it.
I am pretty sure that the Skywalker lightsaber will be repaired. But the question is how. There are several ways that it could be repaired. First Rey might put it back together again. She's good at fixing things. I think that if anyone can fix it, she can. But I found this picture and I'm not sure if it's official or fan made. But either way I think that it's cool and I personally would like to see it in Episode IX.

If you look closely, you can tell that Rey is holding one half of the Skywalker lightsaber, while Ben is holding the other half. Together they are putting the lightsaber back together again, with the Force. If this happens in the rise of Skywalker it would be awesome.
