Happy New Year, guys! This double upload is to make up for the lack of writing on New Years Eve. I didn't get to really celebrate because pretty much my entire family is sick. But the baby and I (again, my first cousin - not my son) twinned as Spider-Man :')

You didn't want to go to any New Years Day parties, but Miles did. And you trailed behind him, sipping on non-alcoholic sparkling drinks that tasted of cranberries and apples and talking to people that were handing you trays of finger food from the freezer. The truth was, you didn't like any of the people you went to high school with except for Miles. But he was popular, and you were not.

There weren't anymore people for Miles to say hello to, so you were both just standing in the corner of the living room. "Isn't that your, like, third glass of sparkling cranber-"

"Yes," you interrupted him. "I'm nervous, okay? I don't like parties. I just need something to do."

"Oh, you're right," he said. "I'm so sorry, dude - I forgot-"

"It's fine," you said.

"Hey, Miles! Over here! The ball's dropping soon, man."

You frowned. "Hey, I'm just going to take a bus home, okay? So you can enjoy your party and I won't be in the way." You put your glass on an empty space on the coffee table. "I'll see you later, okay?"

"What? You aren't leaving, are you?"

"I mean, yeah," you said. You sighed. "Look, the New Year is the New Year. And parties aren't my thing. I wanted to try this for you and me but I can't keep it up. I am just really uncomfortable and I don't like it here."

"I'm sorry," he said. His face fell. "I never meant to make you uncomfortable and... I'm sorry."

"Miles, it's okay," you said sadly. He shoved his hands in his pockets. He wouldn't even look at you. "What is it? Are you mad at me?"

"No, I just... I was acting like a moron. I didn't... I shouldn't have brought you here. And the truth is, I was only bringing you here because I thought it was the best place to get away with giving you a kiss at midnight. But now I see that it wasn't."

You felt your skin get hot. "You thought it would be the best place to get away with what?"

"Shoot," he muttered.

"R-Repeat that," you said, smacking his chest. "Miles, repeat that before I pass out."

"Don't pass out, okay?" He laughed, then cringed. "Did... Did you not notice that I have a crush on you?"

"Uh, no!" you exclaimed. You smiled and your hands started to shake. "You have a crush on me?"

"Yes..."

You smiled so much wider. "Miles, I-I don't know what to say."

"You can say you still wanna be my midnight kiss," he suggested jokingly, "and then I can ask you to be my girlfriend. And I'll take you on our first date which will be..."

"At that one place your dad took us for those cheap cheeseburgers!" you suggested.

He pointed at you. "Yes! And I'll kiss you there."

You glanced at the timer on the TV. "We have, like, twelve minutes."

He grabbed your hand. "Then let's get out of here."

"Hey, Miles! You comin'?" that voice asked again.

"Uh, no thanks! Taking my girlfriend out on our first date. But I'll catch up with you guys later!"

You hurried out of the packed house with him, laughing. "That sounded so lame," you told him.

"Yeah, but I called you my girlfriend," he added.

You laughed again.

You and Miles avoided the subway and the buses. You thought you were going to walk, but then he wrapped his arm around you and shot a web towards the tops of the buildings. He swung you off of the ground and you were scared, but you did feel safe with him. It wasn't the first time he'd taken you around the city by webs, but it was definitely different now.

When you got to the cheap burger place, there were only four minutes left until midnight.

You sat down at the small table, two soft drinks at the table in front of you. Miles was getting a few cheeseburgers and you were watching the small flat screen television that was hanging in the corner.

Three minutes.

Your stomach was filled with butterflies. You knew you weren't even going to be able to take a bite of the cheeseburger until midnight was over.

You were going to have your first kiss.

You were eighteen years old and a senior year in high school. Miles had been your crush since you were thirteen.

And now it was happening.

And you felt like you were a young teenager again, daydreaming about what it would be like when Miles finally asked you out.

He sat down with a bag of cheeseburgers and a long receipt.

"How many did you get?" you asked, looking at the long print.

"I don't know," he said quickly. "I couldn't concentrate." He looked at the TV, and then at you. "One minute."

You glanced around the restaurant. It was empty. Even the guy running the cash registers was also the cook.

"Thirty seconds," he breathed.

"Okay," you said, sitting up straight. "Stop narrating."

"Right, right, right. Sorry. Sorry."

"Stop repeating your words!" you hissed.

"I'm sorry! I am freaking out!" His voice was all over the place.

The crowds on the TV were going wild. There were only ten seconds.

You leaned forward. So did Miles.

He reached up and put his hands on your face.

"Happy New Year," you whispered.

He nodded, unable to find his words.

And he leaned in and touched your lips so very softly.

At first, it wasn't really a kiss at all. It was just him testing the waters, almost. But then you leaned into it, grabbing the back of his neck, and he pushed his lips against yours and gave you a real first kiss.

And it was awkward, and it was weird feeling, and it felt too long and too short at the same time-

But at the same time, it felt right.

When he pulled back, he was grinning so wide.

"Happy New Year," he was finally able to say.

You couldn't stop smiling, either. There had never been a better start to a new year.
