"Hey, you know Paul's been out of school for a few days..." A random girl spoke to Adeline beside me while Blair chewed on her food.

"A few days? It's almost been a week...Tomorrow's Friday." Another answered back.

I stretched and then massaged my shoulder.

"Hey, you ok?" Blair looked me over then smirked. "Chandler has you working extra hard for theater duty?"

"Oh...yeah." I guess that's his punishment for me punching him.

It all happened so fast though...Last Friday, I found out my mom was in the hospital due to stress...perhaps an ulcer. Aunt Vera let me talk to dad this morning and apparently it's not as bad as I first thought, even though I'm still worried.

"Hey Chandler!" Adeline waved at her ex boyfriend when he strolled into the cafeteria, but all he did was take one glance in my direction and ignored our side of the room.

Everyone was staring at him because of his green and light purple bruise under his eye.

"You know Chandler still won't tell me how he got that black eye." Adeline sighed and then looked out the window behind us. "I wonder if he and Paul had a fight, and Paul refuses to come to school."

               Wrong. Not true at all.

"Oh yeah. It'd make sense. Given their families issues and all."

               Huh?

"Shh! Stupid." Adeline hissed at her friend. I bent my head trying to see the girls panicked expression, but turned to Blair instead.

"What about their families?" I questioned my new best friend.

"Doooonnn't ask me! I'm not into the popular circle of morons." Blair flashed me a piece sign as an egg roll invaded her mouth.

               I sighed.

I hope Paul's all right. I know I shouldn't be worrying about this stuff, but, I can't help it. Nobody seems to have noticed the bruise on my hand due to Chandler's cheekbone, and I'm glad, so maybe I can get away with a bit more?

___

"Chandler! I know you have a black eye but that doesn't mean that you can just shirk your work! Get off your butt!" Adeline pulled both of his wrists trying to force him out of his chair stationed in the middle of the stage in the auditorium.

Tons of other girls and boys were helping out by cleaning and building our set for the Romeo and Juliet play. Right now I'm just pasting and tearing.

"Leave me alone! I stayed up late doing homework. Besides, Raven's doing my share."

"Oh it's Raven now huh? Raven?! Since you're doing his share, how bout you go get us the box in the storage closet upstairs?! The one with 5 packs of paper." Adeline smiled at me, and then looked at Chandler waiting for him to object.

"Ads, I didn't get my ears pierced for nothing." Chandler frowned at her.

I feel, like a third wheel for some reason. Oh gosh...what's going on with those two...Are they...having sparks or something?
