**So, I've been sick and with heart palpitations, then got thrown into tech week! I am tired, so please bear with me and my lousy work that I'm throwing at you guys. Love y'all, requests will be opening in a few one shots!**
Y/n L/n doesn't ask for much in life. A steady job, a good apartment, maybe furthering her hobbies into a dream job.
Never had it crossed her mind that a significant other would be in the mix.
When Dirk Strider walked into her shop, she didn't realize that her heart would be leaping out of her chest and her words jumbled. She didn't realize that he would laugh and it would sound like a cold taste of vanilla ice cream. She didn't realize he was captivated by her when giving her his number.
So here she stands; in front of his workplace, scrawled in black sharpie on a wrapper of some sort. Y/n's legs tapped in anxiety and her eyes shone with worrying emotions. She taps the door lightly, the noise from behind the door ceasing. The door opens to Dirk, slightly sweaty and dressed casual. Y/n felt a little embarrassed in her black plaited skirt and tucked in button up. She felt a little overdressed. But what matters? Dirk will probably only have one date with her before leaving for a better girl.
"Shall we?" He says in a honey-coated drawl. Her heart thumped a little faster in her chest as she took his arm to continue their date.
Oh, it was perfect. Dirk had heard Y/n when she said she loved art, and it was a perfect way to treat her. The studio was full of blank canvases to learn to paint, a few hanging aprons in the corner. Y/n bounced on the balls of her feet, palms dampening at the sight before her. She smiles like a kid in a candy store, and grabs a paintbrush instantly. Dirk smiles at the childish and adorable actions of her. It was perfect; she got to do something she loved and he got to see the bright fire in her.
Afterwards, with a few paintings in hand and a glow in each other's hearts, they decided to go to dinner. A quaint, cute restaurant was in walking distance. Y/n slid in the opposite side of the booth as Dirk did the same. The conversation was light, but enjoyable. It continued across the table and laughter rang, making people look over at the happy young couple. Neither of them minded, both were too deeply in love.
Y/n played a little with her food, twisting the fork and pushing it on her plate. She so enjoyed her time with Dirk. It made him so perfect in her eyes, so dazzling in her perspective. Y/n loved it, but knew it would end right after this date, this marvelous time out. Dirk reached across and took her hand in his. She looked over and memorized his looks. His blond-gold hair, pointed and polished shades, a slight tilt of the head.
"What's wrong?" Dirk inquired. He could read the girl like a book and they barely knew each other. Y/n loved that it seemed as if they were together already. She squeezed his hand lightly and smiled across the table.
"Nothing, Dirk." She answered. "You want to walk around a little?" Dirk paid for the food, such a gentleman. They took each other's hands once more and they walked out of the restaurant with smiles and satisfied stomachs.
The sun was leaving the sky, leaving it a soft pink and light trace of orange. The small clouds in the sky were illuminated by the dimming light, creating a breathtaking view. It only made Y/n melancholy. Dirk could sense that.
"Really Y/n, I care." He used his hand to guide her to face him. "What's wrong?"
He had a little bundle of nerves growing. He hoped the date was up to her standards, he hoped the girl liked him back as much as he adored her. He hoped she would realize how she meant toe world to him.
She smiled softly and tiredly.
"I know this is only a one night thing," She whispered. "You'll find another girl rather soon."
Dirk was stunned at the low confidence of the beautiful, intelligent girl. Why would he ever think it was one date when it could be many and more?
"I got my hopes up," She continued in her soft, saddening voice.
"About what?" He said in a captivated voice. He wanted to know why she thought there was nothing to grow.
"About you actually loving me. You're so perfect and I'm just me." She laughed a little, ringing in the air, but not at all like the cheery laughter earlier.
Dirk held her hands tightly and leaned down. Y/n kissed him sweetly, a puff of air coming out of her nostrils. The kiss ended far too soon for both of their liking.
"How could I not love someone like you?" He said in a clear voice. "You're you, and that's who I want. Not anyone else."
Her heart swelled with happiness at his sweet words. Y/n had been wanting this, she'd been wanting the sweet words and gentle touch. Dirk wraps his arms around her, not too tight, but not loose like she'd leave soon. A comforting touch. Dirk walked Y/n back to her home with a promise for another date and another sweet kiss.
Three days later, Dirk and Y/n went on another date.
