"You look beautiful, baby," Cody complimented, his eye's scanning over his girlfriend's, Jordan's, body. They were going to the BBWAA awards dinner, where Cody was to accept his NL Rookie of the Year award.
"Thank you," she said, smiling as she walked over to him. She had picked out a special black dress for the occasion, which she had to admit made her look pretty damn good.
She rested her arms on his shoulders, grinning up at him. He leaned down, kissing her gently. "Ready to go?" he questioned when he pulled away.
"Yup," she responded, pulling away from him to grab her purse. She watched him glance down at her body one last time and she chuckled to herself as he opened the front door. Doing the same to him, she followed him out the door.
The building wasn't far from their New York hotel; just a few minutes of driving. There were lots of people around, taking photos and whatnot. Jordan didn't exactly like the attention, but she didn't mind it. More pictures to post later, she thought.
The dinner started shortly after that. Jordan sat with Cody's family; they had all some to watch Cody accept his award. She chatted with Cody's sister, Ashli, as they waited for the ceremony to start.
No time was wasted in starting once everyone was settled. Cody sat on the stage next to Aaron Judge, an old friend of Jordan's that she was excited to see. It was amazing to see them together with the stars of Major League Baseball.
Aaron was the first player to speak, and Jordan clapped extra loudly for her former friend. He spoke for a short while before it was Cody's turn. She clapped loudly for him, too, before he spoke. He thanked his family, friends, teammates, and of course, Jordan, before smiling at her and finishing his speech.
The rest of the ceremony wasn't too interesting, but Jordan had to sit through it nonetheless. Afterwards, she got to see Cody again. She hugged him, congratulating him on the award. As she pulled away, she spotted Aaron walking towards them.
"Aaron," she greeted with a smile. "It's so nice to see you again."
"You, too, Jordan," he replied, smiling. "It's been way too long."
"I didn't know you two knew each other," Cody interjected, looking a little annoyed that their moment had been ruined.
"We grew up in the same town," Jordan explained.
"I didn't know you two were together," Aaron said, his snarky tone matching Cody's.
For the rest of the night, Jordan continued to talk with Aaron while Cody disappeared somewhere with his family. It was only when people began to leave when she saw him again, looking upset.
The ride home was quiet. Jordan figured he was jealous of Aaron, but she couldn't understand why. Aaron was a friend and nothing more.
As she and Cody arrived home, Jordan got an idea. As Cody sat down on the couch, she took her phone out, playing Love On Top by Beyonce. He looked up at her, slightly confused as to what she was doing.
She held a hand out to him, helping him up. She sang along to the chorus, hoping she was getting her message across. She loved him and only him.
"I'm sorry," she began as the second verse began, "for ditching you."
"It's okay," he told her. "I was rude."
"No, you were fine," she said, smiling. "I hope you know what I'm trying to say, now."
He smiled. "Of course."
