Spencer's POV:
This year my mom signed me up to volunteer as a camp counsellor at Camp Sunshine, a camp for children ages 5-9.
Trust me, it isn't sunshine at all.
This weekend me and one other counsellor have to take the kids out for a sleepover (3 nights, may I add) up to the mountains and stay in a lodge up there.
We already have them paired up, but none of the kids listen. It's absolute hell.
The other girl, Ellie, loves this job. She graduated last year, and this year I'm going into senior year.
She sits with me on the 3 hour bus ride, and goes on and on about how much she loves these kids (that I swear are kids of satan himself), and how she can't wait for the hike we're taking tonight before bed.
I pretend I'm listening while she talks, but I'm actually secretly admiring the fact we got separate rooms and are staying all alone.
Thank god.
When we finally pull up to the lodge, all the kids get up excitedly and follow Ellie inside, me following behind.
There are 15 kids, and only 2 counsellors. I don't know how this is going to work.
When we enter, I do a head count to make sure we have everyone, while Ellie signs us in. Once we're both done, we walk upstairs to the floor that we have all to ourselves, due to the number of kids.
We have 3 kids per room, then Ellie and I have our own, so we need 7 rooms for this 3 day trip.
We help them put their things in their room, and then gather them up for our evening hike.
Which is not going to be fun.
"Can we pleaseeee go to the highest mountain?" Susie begs, and I roll my eyes. "Sorry, sweetheart, it's going to be dark in 2 hours. We won't have time." I tell her with a fake smile, and she frowns.
I look at Ellie, who has a genuine smile on her face and kneels down to Susie's height. "It's only 7. We have 2 hours." She huffs and Ellie pats her head.
"Of course we'll go to the highest mountain." She tells her, and the kids begin to jump up and down and cheer. I roll my eyes, glaring at Ellie, who has the biggest smile on her face.
We will not be getting along very well this trip.
"Right this way!" Ellie exclaims, and we begin to make our way up the mountain. It took us 45 minutes just to get up there, due to all the complaining the children did.
I want to say I told you so to them, but they're only young.
"Ellie, can't we go now?" I ask her in an annoyed tone. "Spencer, if you didn't want to hike you shouldn't of signed up." She says cheerfully and walks away before I can respond to her.
"Ellie, can I please go to bed now? I'm tired." One whines, rubbing their eyes. "Of course, Lily. Spencer will carry you down." Ellie says and Lily looks at me with a smile.
"Okay kids, time to walk down for bedtime!" She says and they all clap their hands excitedly. Lily reaches her arms up, and I groan, picking her up so she can rest her head against my shoulder.
"It isn't that bad, Spence." Ellie calls out from the front of the line. "Don't call me that. I hate that nickname." I say and glare at her, which makes her laugh.
"I wasn't kidding." I say, and she shrugs.
Once we reach the lodge again, Ellie escorts them upstairs to their rooms because she said she's going to relax for a bit too.
I told her I'm going to mingle at the lodge, because I could use someone to talk to that wasn't her or between the ages of 5-9.
She laughed because she thought I was kidding. I wasn't.
I walk up to this handsome stranger with chestnut hair and blue eyes, who was eyeing me with the smallest smile.
"Are you old enough to buy alcohol? Because I need it." I say and he chuckles. "Yes. Let's go to the bar." He says and I smile.
We walk out back to the bar, and sit at a table in the back. "I'll go get drinks." He smiles, and I nod.
Minutes later, he returns and sits across from me.
"What's your name?" He asks, taking a sip from his drink. "Spencer. And you are?" I ask, taking a giant gulp and he chuckles. "Toby." He smiles.
"Can I say you have an adorable smile?" I grin, getting this boost of confidence. "I can say the same for you." He replies, making me blush the slightest bit.
"Want to play a question game? I'm not entirely sure what you'd call it." He asks and I giggle. "Sure. You start." I say, looking into his eyes.
"Hmm, well, where are you from?" He asks, taking a sip of his drink. "Rosewood." I reply. "Me too." He smiles.
"What grade are you going to?" I ask him. "I just graduated." He smiles. "I'm a senior." I tell him and he nods.
"Why are you up here in the mountains?" He asks. "Volunteering with a children's camp." I reply, trying not to roll my eyes at the thought. "I'm here on vacation." He tells me.
"Okay, I got another one." I say, and he looks intrigued. "How long until I can kiss you?" I smirk, and his eyes widen just the slightest.
"How about now?" He smirks, leaning in closer and connecting our lips.
I pull back, looking into his beautiful blue eyes. "Can I take you back to my hotel room?" I whisper, biting my lip shyly. "It's about time you asked." He says, smirking a little.
I grab his hand, pulling him out of his chair and out of the bar. I check to make sure Ellie is in her room, and then bring Toby down the hall and to where I'm sleeping.
"We got to keep it down. There's children staying on this floor." I smirk, pulling him in my room. He smirks in response, and I push him up against the closed door, connecting our lips.
I bring my hands down to his belt, unbuckling it and tossing it to the floor as he kisses down my neck.
Toby puts his hands on my waist, brings me over to the bed, and lays down taking me with him.
I smile against his lips, and before we knew it all our clothes had been discarded.
~~after~~
"You should go. I have to be up 8:00 with these kids to take another hiking trip." I say, leaning up and kissing him.
"I know. But I really want to stay." He whispers in my ear, giving me goosebumps. "Okay, you can stay a little longer, but just because you're so cute." I giggle and he smiles.
"I had a fun time tonight, Spence. Can I call you that?" He asks with a smirk.
I think for a minute, before nodding.
"Now to think of it, Spence isn't bad at all." I smile.
