I head off with Tonari to practice in the woods my heart still reeling for Aang. Since leaving the desert he's become distant.
"Good to see you again princess." He greets me and I flush, every time I see him it's like the first time. His handsome face is perfect with eyes that undress me and protect me all in one look. I feel electricity course through me at his nearness.
"Look what I got." I say drawing out the scroll for him to appraise.
"Woah, score Neva." He says grinning at me and I beam.
We spare for a warm up and then it's time for the rocks. I focus my anger and with a cry I stop the boulders from flying at me. They wack against my energy walls shattering into dust. I fall forward grinning at my own skills.
"Well done." He says his cheeks a fair pink.
"What's wrong?" I say breathlessly getting back to my feet.
"Nothing it's just a-" He hesitates his eyes swimming. "Nothing. Moving on to fire."
"Toneri-"
"Spirit energy can redirect fire and shatter it into its embers. You need to send out a wave of energy that over powers the fire. It has to be strong enough to envelop living heat."
"I'm ready." I say and his brows constrict.
"It's the most dangerous element to face you need time to-"
"Fen." I cry and the dragon looks at me. "I'm ready."
I breath deeply and get into my spirit stance. Fen readies a breath of fire releasing when I give a curt nod. The orange flames come darting towards me and I thrust my energy out but the fire just eats passed the energy and comes for me. I scream and throw my hands up to shield myself when Tonari jumps in the way and deflects the fire until it vanishes in the air.
"T-Tonari." I stutter and he faces me looking evenly into my eyes. His expression is masked, unreadable. "I-"
He grabs my chin in his hand and dips his head down, pressing his lips against mine. My eyes widen but I close them and lean into his soft embrace as he takes me into his arms. We kiss for several moments until I pull away gasping for air.
"I guess I forgot you still need to do that." He chuckles almost sounding breathless himself.
"I don't." I grin and go to kiss him again. He chuckles.
"Focus princess." He whispers drawing away.
"No." I pout and he touches my bottom lip lightly.
