The stream had ended early because of Vero's emotional state. She was too tired to continue and actually decided to call it a night. Tomorrow was going to be a busy day filled with panels as well a few matches of Overwatch.
Brad had happily walked her back to her hotel room and was slowly returning to his. Every step he took felt heavier and heavier than the last. He wasn't sure why he felt so drained but he definitely knew he felt stupid.
"Let me get this straight." Tyrodin mumbled groggily. "A fan in the chat literally told you how to kiss her and you still messed it up?"
"Yeah..."
Sean sighed deeply in the receiver of the phone. It was obviously too late for their conversation but he had to be a decent friend. "I don't know what to tell you. Why didn't you just kiss her? It's not like it's hard, Brad."
"Ugh! I don't know, okay?!" Brad grumbled. "I was going to but then I just...froze up. We still hugged, uh, does that count?"
"Nothing beats a kiss Brad. You should know this by now."
He groaned loudly and buried his face in his hands. "I know! I'm so stupid. I can't even get this one thing right!"
Silence reigned supreme for a good few minutes. The only sound that could be heard were the cars passing him by. He needed to do something to let her know he cared. He couldn't just pretend there was nothing between them.
"I got it." Sean yawned lazily. "I know what you gotta do."
"What? What do I gotta do to get her attention?!"
"I'll make sure Bazza and Elliott won't bother you tommorow." Sean said. "You need to find Vero and stick to her like glue. If she's interested I'm sure she'll let you know."
"Thanks Sean, I don't know what I'd do without you!"
Sean gave a bittersweet laugh that made his friend smile. "I've got a wife. I kinda have to know how these things work. Just don't mess it up again! I can't be your wing-man forever."
"Sorry, Sean. Thanks for the help."
"No problem. See you in the morning."
Brad hung up his cell phone and grit his teeth. He felt guilt in the pit of his stomach. It was really stupid of him to feel jealous.
"Thanks for everything."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brad may have made a serious miscalculation.
The opening ceremonies were in fifteen minutes and Vero was nowhere to be found. He would've tried texting her but he didn't have her number. How was he going to explain this to Sean?!
Suddenly, his phone gave off a loud notification sound. It startled him but he opened up his messages. There, at the top of his Twitter feed, was a picture of Vero and some guitar playing fans. They were sitting on the stairs leading to the entrance of BlizzCon!
Brad stumbled his way through the crowd to that very spot. Sitting on the stairs were the couple of musicians strumming chords but no Shenpai. Both looked up at Brad with confusion.
"Hey. What can we do ya for?" One of them asked. Brad recognized him as the fan named 'Potato'. The one sitting next to him was 'Merry Wolfrik'.
"I'm looking for this girl. She was with you just a moment ago!"
Merry took one look at the phone and gawked. "Hey, that's Shenpai! I can't believe she took a picture with us!"
"Which way did she go?!"
Potato scoffed and motioned to the entrance doors of BlizzCon. A swarm of giddy fans were gathered around them, making it nearly impossible to see inside. "She went in there. My guess is to the opening ceremony. You'd better hurry before they lock you out!"
With a rushed thanks Brad sprinted off again. He knew running wasn't allowed but he could've gave a shit less. He needed to find her and soon.
He skidded around a particular corner with con managers spouting curses in the distance. Before he could make it to the ceremony amphitheater someone forcibly grabbed his hoodie. The pressured fabric nearly made him choke.
"Calm down, Brad. It's just me."
He looked to the side and peered into the face of a pissed off teenager. She was extremely short and wearing huge, pink, Rayban glasses. He took one glance at her D.va tshirt and recognized her from the chat.
"Wait. Are you-?'
"YES. I'm gberryb." She grumbled, giving him a dirty glare. "You just love to screw things up don't you?"
"N-now wait a minute!"
The teen tapped her foot impatiently while sticking her bottom lip in a pout. "She's in aisle thirty-two, seat B. Go you idiot!"
Brad grinned and immediately dashed off. Before he was out of sight he made sure to tip his hat at her as a token of his gratitude. Gberryb gave a haughty smirk and tipped her own imaginary hat in a farewell. "You two will have your happy ending soon enough."
No one noticed as she pulled out her phone and started to type. A few minutes later she pressed the submit button on a specific website dedicated to fanfiction.
"You'd better treat her well, jerk off."
