Everyone has something that they are passionate about, some people have many things and some people only have one thing that they are passionate about.
Your character needs to have a passion, something that drives them, something that motivates them. Making your character as 'human' as possible (even if they are an alien thing) is what you aim for, because it creates a bond between reader and character.
Being passionate is something we share as a human race, whether you are passionate about singing, or about global warming or about sitting at home and doing nothing.
Your character's passion for certain things may be useful in certain situations as well, it could lead to them saying some epic speeches or doing some crazy, irrational things.
