"Honey, you really should get up." Your mom advises from outside your closed bedroom door. You groan and turn over in bed, sinking deeper beneath the mound of blankets. "I know you're upset Adam's homecoming date got extended for a month, but that can't stop you from living." She adds softly.
You wipe away the tears. "I've been waiting for this moment for a year, mom. You don't know what it's like." You say.
You're Adam's girlfriend. You were friends since you were both kids, and started dating three months before Adam got deployed.
"You're right, I don't. But would Adam want you sulking? No, he wouldn't. He'd want you up and continuing on with your life." Your mom says.
"Easier said than done." You mumble. Your mom sighs.
"Okay, fine. Just stay in there then." She says, a little irritated, before walking away.
You reach for your phone and brush away the air from your eyes, looking at a picture of Adam and you on your wallpaper. Your chin quivers and the tears flow anew.
"Oh, Adam, I miss you so much." You whisper, your voice cracking. You set the phone down on your tummy and stare up at the ceiling. After a few minutes of silently crying, you sniff and sit up, brushing away the tears.
"Mom's right. Adam would want me to continue on and not sulk." You whisper to yourself, getting out of bed,

---

You sit at the breakfast table, munching on a protein bar, when your mom enters the room.
"Oh, you're up." She says in surprise. You nod and swallow. Her eyebrows draw when she spots  you in leggings and an over-sized sweater. "You're seriously going to wear that?" She asks.
"Um, is there a problem? Today is just sort of my chill day. I didn't know I was supposed to be dressed formally just for staying home." You say, sarcasm dripping from your words.
Your mom shoots you a look. She looks like she's about to say something, but instead she swallows it and walks out of the room.
You sigh and slide off of the chair, before going to your room to throw on some makeup. As you're applying your mascara, the doorbell rings.
"Hey, Y/N, would you mind getting that?" Your mom shouts from downstairs.
"Yes, I would." You mutter, before letting out a huff. "No, no I wouldn't." You call to your mother. You twist your hair into a messy bun before hurrying down the stairs. You open the door and immediately falter, your breath leaving you in a gasp. You choke on a sob and burst into tears at the sight of Adam standing there, in his military uniform, smiling at you.
"Adam." You cry, slowly wrapping your arms around him. He pulls you against him, tears in his eyes. You bury your head in his chest and weep. "What are you doing here? I thought your homecoming was delayed." You say.
"It was delayed. But my commanding officer told me I can go since I've been deployed for a such a long time." He explains. You pull back and your eyes search his whole face. You smile.
"You're so handsome." You whisper. Adam smiles as a tear slides down his cheek.
"I missed you so much." He whispers, before cupping your cheek and kissing you passionately.
     "I love you." You say.
"I love you too, Y/N." Adam replies, holding you tightly.
You hear a sniff behind you and glance at your mother who is swiping away tears. You look at her as Adam rests his head against your temple, his eyes closed.
"Mom, is this why you were criticizing me today?" You laugh softly. She chuckles and nods.
     "Sorry." She apologizes.
"It's okay." You say, smiling. You look back at Adam who's staring at you lovingly. You giggle and kiss him.
"I just can't believe you're back." You whisper. Adam draws you back into his arms and buries his face in your neck. You rest your head on his, your eyes closed, smiling.
[THE END] I hope you liked it!
