“No Brandon. You don’t want to do that! I know you don’t.” Callie’s hands started to shake and I reached out to her but she moved herself away from me. “Please Brandon.”

“Do something that makes YOU happy for once! God dammit Callie!” I shouted, my voice so loud and stern it was almost frightening. Callie cowered into the seat and I felt slightly guilty. “I’m sorry,” I mumbled.

“For what? Being right?” she snapped, her eyes watering as she pulled the blanket up over her and turning her head to look out the window at the early morning sky.

“No. For scaring you.” She continued to tremble and ignore my apology.

We drove in silence, her eyes watching as we passed sign by sign. We were so close to California. We might get there by nightfall if we’re lucky.

Callie was right though. She doesn’t have very much luck considering we ran out of gas just an hour away from home. I pulled over with the little bit of juice the car had left and turned to Callie as I parked the car. “We’re out of gas and money,” I told her quietly.

“No shit Sherlock,” she hissed, hanging her head low.

“I’ll call moms.” I saw her turn to fight me on that, but she sighed and gave up before even trying. I dialed the house line and waited impatiently. “Mom,” I said once Lena’s voice rang through my phone.

“Brandon?! Where are you?! We’ve called Aiden and he says you’re not there. You better have a good explanation Mister!” she shouted, her loud voice making me need to pull the phone away from my ear.

“I’m an hour from home and uh..out of gas. And money.”

“Are you serious Brandon?!” she cried. “Stef come over here,” I heard her say to my mom. “You’re never going to believe where our son is! He’s an hour away out of gas.”

                “On the highway,” I added.

“ON THE HIGHWAY!” Lena repeated, surprised and angry.

                “With Callie.”

“With Call-,” Lena went to say, but she paused and it was as if I could feel the shock in her body. “Stef, he’s got Callie!” I heard my other mom run to the phone as Lena said that. “Thank god, we’re on our way, where are you?”

“Right by the exit,” I replied, Callie’s eyes watching me now.

“Be there as soon as we can with gas okay, don’t move. And please tell Callie we're so happy she's safe and we love her”

“Okay,” I responded quietly, hanging up the phone and setting it down. I turned to Callie who had returned her attention the window. “They’re coming to get us and they say they love you and are happy you're safe.” She turned her head, surprising me once again as she began to cry. I didn't touch her this time, fearing her reaction. Instead she grabbed the back of my neck gently with her hands and pulled me in for a kiss, raging with ten times more passion then our last. Our lips parted and her body clung to mine as I immediately hugged her back. “Let’s try and sleep in the backseat before they get here,” I whispered in her ear.

“Okay,” she sobbed into my chest, climbing into the back seat as I followed. She sat up against the door, and motioned for me to lay with her. I hesitantly put my head on her chest, her fingers automatically tangling in my hair. “I’m going to stay awake and wait. You sleep though,” she whispered to me, stroking my face. I was too exhausted to argue and insist she needed sleep too. I just laid in silence, waiting for sleep to overcome me. “Brandon,” Callie whispered.

                “Hmm?”

“Thank you. For coming to get me.” Her fingers continued to play with my hair, lulling me into sleep quickly.

“I’d do anything for you Callie.”

Aw snap, so cute ahaha. Anyways, thank you for the lovely comments last time! Sorry it took so long to get this one up. I ended up watching the 90’s version of Romeo and Juliet and just kind of got lost in it.
