What is Singlish?
Singlish: Singapore English ;) Mix of Chinese, English, Cantonese, Hokkien and others
Singlish Vocabulary:
Aiya:
A Cantonese expression of displeasure.
Buey song:
Pissed (at something)
buey tahan:
a Hokkien phrase that means "I can't stand you"
Bojio:
Why didn't you invite me (to something)?
Can arnot ah:
Can or cannot
Diam:
Hokkien for Quiet
Siam:
Hokkien for Get lost
Sian:
Tired, bored, sick of something
Wah lao eh!:
A phrase used to express surprise or disappointment. In the same vein as "Oh my goodness"
Paiseh:
Apologetic
Lah:
a slang used mainly by people of South-East Asia (Malaysia and Singapore mainly) to complement almost any sentence available in a social conversation
Leh:
an informal way of saying 'please' or complaining
Lor:
from Cantonese, used to emphasize a point
meh:
used like a question mark
shiok:
a phrase that means "feels good" (?)
sia:
just an extra word to add on to a sentence. Singaporeans love doing that
siao:
used in expressing disapproval, siao = more crude, 'crazy'
zai:
pro at something
