Chapter 29

Eliza

                    I get a text from Jack and Thomas at the same time. The one from Jack asked if we could get something to eat after I picked him up. And the one from Thomas asked if I wanted to come to this place he thought I'd like. I shook my head and ignored the text. I get into my car from a cool day at work and get ready to get onto the road. When I stop for gas, I text back Thomas and tell him that I need to get Jack. "He can join us," He texted back and my mind went quickly to the idea. Thomas's plans usually had talking about it the next time we saw each other. He is a good friend to me, after we got past the creep parts of him. But I had to think about how Jack would feel if we did things he wasn't ready for yet. "We'll see," I text him back then lock my phone.

                 Driving from my job to Jack took some gas, but I was happy to see his face when I picked him up. He recently tries to remind me that when he goes back to work that things will be better, and that he will be one of those things. I tell him every day that he is already there. "Come in and see, Dr. Lund," Jack texted back when I told him I was there. I grabbed the drink I got for Jack at the gas station and walked in. They were standing outside the office waiting for me. "Am I late?" I say to Dr. Lund and he shakes his head no and smiles. "No, he was my last patient of the day, so you are just fine." He says and I thank him. "It's nice to see you Ms. Jacobs and you too Mr. Ellis. I loved having you here." Jack and his therapist shakes hands and exchange smiles. I thank the man again and we head to the car. "I got you a drink at the gas station," I pass him the drink and tell him to hold my phone.

            "What do you want to eat?" Jack asked me when we were close to the house. "Um, I'm down for anything you are to be honest," I respond and I see the look on his face. "Well...I don't know either...How about a BLT? Do we have bacon?" Remembering the latest time we had breakfast together, I recalled some bacon in the fridge. "We do, let's hope it's good." Dinner at home it was again and I enjoyed it much better. I hear my phone buzz, indicating that I had a text. "Will you get that?" I signal Jack to grab my phone. He reads a text from Thomas aloud.

             "He wants to know if I would be okay if I didn't come. Where do you want to go?" Jack questions me and I tell him that I do not know. I don't know what Thomas wants to do, but he wanted to do it with me. "I told him that I had to stay with you, so just ignore it." I tell him. "You can go if you want," He commented, and I wanted him to take it back. If he wanted me to stay with him, I would. "It's fine. I'll stay with you." I pull into the drive way and park the car. "Are you sure," I said to Jack after I repeated myself for the third time. "Yes, damnit," He curses and puts the car keys into my hand. Jack eyed me for a minute or two, and then took the keys out of my hand.

                 Yes, tell me not to go, "Have dinner with me first and then you can go," Jack goes into the kitchen after changing out of his clothes and starts the bacon. "I could've cooked it," I mentioned to him. "Yeah, I know, but I beat you to it. You know I can do stuff, right?" By the sound of his voice, he was annoyed. I brushed it off, but everything I said, he responded as if he wanted to ignore me. "I don't think you want me to go out." I move closer to him and kiss his cheek. "No, I do. You should go have fun," He kissed me back and said it a bit nicer. "I would have fun here," I groan but he gives me a face. I make my way to the bedroom put on some shoes.

                  Jack comes in behind me and gets into the bed. "Are you just gonna lay in bed all night?" I picked Jack up around four and it has been hour since then. "Yeah you wanna join for a little," Jack, offered me a spot next to him in the bed. We get through a full shitty, yet weirdly addicting Lifetime Movie before Thomas texted me again. "I'll come for a little while." I text him back and get out of the bed. Jack barely held his eyes open but when I went to kiss him goodbye, they do. "I'll be back in an hour or so, I promise." I assure him that I loved him and that I would be okay.
