#7: Brendon's Ankle

"Okay. So we played a show in Florida and um, we had this moment in the show where I would go to a different spot in the venue and sing a song acoustically, then the band will play for about thirty seconds while I ran back to the stage, and the boots that I had were really loose and I didn't tie them well enough and I had to run down these stairs to get back to the stage and run around the parking lot to get to the stage, and as I was running down the steps, my foot just goes *cracking noise* and my leg went straight down and my foot just kinda cut into it. I pulled it up real fast and and I was like 'holy shit,' and I felt a shooting pain, and I knew something bad had just happened. So I hobbled along, I kept hopping and jumping on my fucking foot, just cause like whatever. I didn't realize what happened. I ran to the stage and as I'm trying to get to the stage, I collapsed, and I couldn't even walk anymore. I was like 'holy shit.' That was scary, I couldn't control it. Once I got to the stage I was just like climbing up it on my hands and knees and it was terrifying because I didn't know what was happening. I got up to the stage and got back to the mic. I think there's a video of when I get back up to the mic and when I took my boot off just to see what had happened cause I was limping on it, it was just throbbing, it was killing me. I was trying to take it off, and that was my first time looking at it. I was like 'oh my god,' it was like the size of a softball. It was fucking terrifying. I didn't know if it was just a bone sticking out or shit. So yeah, it just swelled up real big, and because I had twisted my ankle in the past the doctor said it had calloused up with muscle tissue so it would've broken if I hadn't had all this scarred up tissue. And because I've rolled my ankle skating so much as a kid the doctor said I saved my ankle from actually breaking in half. I was the closest to snapping it into two pieces. It actually worked out, it was okay, I just had to wear this shitty brace for the rest of the your basically. That was brutal."
