He was sleepy.
There was no doubt about that. He knew that the early days of parenthood would be difficult, and he knew that many sleepless nights were around the corner. Dylan was 5 days old, and the two of you had been home with him for 2 days, enjoying the time you had before your families and friends came to see the newest member.
The two of you were tired.
Harry tried not to show it, because he needed to be alert for when his sons cries of distress sounded around the house. He wanted to be the one to get the early morning shifts, because he knew you needed sleep. You took the late night shifts, when Dylan needed feeding, but Harry couldn't sleep knowing you needed it more than him. He'd sit with you, on the floor beside the rocking chair, when you were trying to get your son to sleep. His upper torso would be bare and his hips would adorn a pair of white shorts; his usual sleeping attire. The rocking motion of the rocking chair would soothe your newest arrival to sleep, and the two of you would be relieved when his green orbs shut and his breathing slowed. Soft sighs left his lips as he rested his forehead against our thigh, his lips pressing kisses to your skin.
"Did I ever tell you how proud I am of you? It's not even been a week, and I'm loving this whole thing.." He smiled, as his eyes closed. The soft smell of your shower gel lingering on your skin. "You've made me the happiest husband, and you've been incredible and I love you so much. I'm so, so proud of you" Harry whispered as he lifted his head, and placed his chin on your kneecap. His eyes cast up to you, as your chin dipped down to your chest. Your own eyes closing and your cheeks flushed.
"I couldn't have done it without you, mister. You've been so supportive and you've been just as incredible" You smiled, with a yawn following soon after. "I think I'm going to head to bed. Can I give Dylan to you?" You wondered, as you opened an eye to look down at your husband, whose own eyes were watching you, lovingly.
"Of course, sweetheart. I'll take the night feeds, okay? I'll cater to his needs, and you can get some proper rest. Gemma's coming to take you out for your spa and coffee date tomorrow" He smiled, as he danced his fingers up your calf muscle. His fingertips soft and swift as they moved over your skin.
His sister had offered to whisk you away for a day, leaving Harry to look after Dylan for the first time on his own. He was nervous, and you were freaked. You loved going out, but with a 5 day old baby being graced into your little family, you wanted to be there for everything. Neither you nor Harry wanted to miss out on anything major. His first smile had happened yesterday, when he was snuggled down into his fathers lap. His feet were pressed to Harry's stomach, and his face was contorting as he was experimenting with his facial muscles. It was beautiful. And it made you not want to miss anything else.
But Gemma had insisted.
"Will you be okay here, then? I can call her and say you need me here. She'll understand. It's barely been a week, and I'm leaving him..." You started, as you heard Harry stand up. His hands tugging at his white shorts to adjust them on his hips. "I feel like a bad mother if I leave him. It's been 5 days, and I'm going out without him.." You sighed, as you watched Harry's hand outstretch, his fingers moving underneath his sons arms and his arms lifting him to his chest.
"You are no where near a bad mother, (Y/N). You need a break, yeah? Me and Dylan will be just fine here, yeah? You need to get out there, alright. Yeah, you gave birth 5 days ago, but you can't stay cooped up in the house with Dylan. It's not healthy. You need some relaxation time, and Gemma is just the person to do that. She's been looking forward to it" Harry smiled, as he swayed his hips from side to side softly, taking small steps on the white carpet in Dylan's nursery.
