Here are the rules for the Fanfic★Challenge unless otherwise stated within a given challenge. This challenge has three main categories writers may write for.
★ Fanfic – This category is for stories written for fictional fandoms.
★ Popfic – This category is for stories written for non-historical real people fandoms.
★ Original Fiction – This category is for non-fandom stories. The challenges are broken up into these categories to help writers better market their stories, but help readers find stories which best suit their reading tastes. They are also broken up into these categories because not all challenges allow for stories from all three categories. For example, some challenges don't allow for original fiction.
Use grammar to the best of your ability. Readers should be able to read your stories without having to decipher a wall-of-text or lack of proper capitalization.
Properly tag your stories. Readers and other writers can't find your stories unless you properly tag your stories. Fanfic should be tagged fanfic★challenge, popfic should be tagged popfic★challenge and original fiction should be tagged originalfiction★challenge. You do need to include the ★ in the tag, but you can copy said star from any of the chapter titles. Fanfic and popfic should also include a fandom tag. For example, if I am writing for Harry Potter, I would use the harrypotter tag. This helps readers find stories for specific fandoms and helps you get more readers. Pairings and other people's fanfics do not count as fandoms.
Include the fandom you are writing for in your story. This helps readers know what fandom you are writing for in any given challenge. This way if a reader isn't looking for a specific fandom, they can tell if they know the fandom they are reading for. Again, this helps readers find your story. Pairings and other people's fanfics do not count as fandoms.
Unless otherwise stated... no crossovers, no OCs unless needed and no next generation stories which involve next generation characters who do not yet have their own story within the canon material. All of these things can change the difficulty of the challenge, but also defeat the purpose of the challenge. See the faqs section for more information.
Also, unless otherwise stated... all stories should be new, and one should limit oneself to one story for each of the main categories.
Characterization wise... no character bashing, and keep the characters in character to the best of you ability. See the faqs section for more information.
Do not write for banned fandoms. Some challenges will ban certain fandoms. For example, if the challenge is to parody the Star Wars fandom, then the Star Wars fandom will be banned for said challenge.
Write your own stuff. The stories should be in your own words, and your own work. A few quotes here and there are fine, but the majority needs to be your own works.
Don't write for non-fandoms unless the story is for the original fiction category.
Here is some additional information. If you want to do the challenges in a language other than English, substitute the word challenge for your language. For example, fanfic★challenge for a French story will be fanfic★french. Also, feel free to post links to stories written for the challenge. For most of the prompt list challenges, please reply to the prompt you are writing for.
Non-Fandoms
Original fiction posted to Wattpad Aand not a traditional manner does not count as a fandom due to the inability to verify, but also the fact writes can also always delete their work from the site. Also, fanworks do not count as fandoms either, but are sub-fandoms for the given fandom and thus not allowed. These include...
- After – This is a popular 1D fanfic which originated on Wattpad.
- Big 4 – This is the name given to crossovers for Brave, Frozen, How to Train Your Dragon and Rise of the Guardians. This name does not count as a fandom and is not a way to get around the rule of no crossovers.
- Minecraft Diaries/My Street – This fanwork is about a fan falling into the Minecraft fandom, but also the subsequent prequel to the given work.
- Misfit Chronicles – This is a series which crosses over the original G.I. Joe cartoon and X-Men Evolution. One of the reasons these works aren't allowed isbecause people do not give the original creators credit, but also becausethings can get really confusing when people start submitting fanfic based ofanother person's fanwork based off yet another person's fanwork. However, forsome challenges there are bonus challenges which allows one to write fanficbased off another writer's fanfic submitted for said challenge.
