Hi, guys! I'm Mazewriterrr, and I'm here to introduce you to The Maze Runner!
You might have heard of it before, but it can be a little confusing, even if you've watched the movies. The books explain it in more detail, though it remains just as mysterious. I'm here to help you out :)
The Maze Runner is a young adult dystopian science fiction trilogy written by James Dashner. The first book in the trilogy was published in 2009, and it has since been followed by two prequels and a spin-off series, the final book of which is expected to be released this April. The trilogy was also adapted into a successful film series, beginning with The Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball, in 2014.
The Maze Runner trilogy revolves around a teenage boy named Thomas. Thomas with no known last name.
One day, Thomas wakes up in a small room. He can see the darkness. He can feel the coolness. He comes to the realization that it's some sort of elevator.
But he can't remember anything.
No friends, no family—nothing. Just basic knowledge, like the fact he's fearing his death as the 'elevator' keeps moving faster and faster.
After what feels like forever, it comes to a safe spot. It opens from above, blinding him with the daylight he thought he'd never see again.
He's greeted by 40+ other teenage boys, from short to tall, from young to old, from dirty to clean.
They're locked in a big field, called 'The Glade'. Surrounded by a gigantic labyrinth: The Maze.
The first movie/book follows Thomas. He tries out all the different jobs in the Glade—which are needed to keep the place running—but he feels bored. There's only one thing that attracts his attention, and it's forbidden to enter.
The Maze, obviously.
Now, it is possible to make your way inside the Maze (if you even survive). Thomas feels the need to be the hero and free everyone from their prison. To be honest, he succeeds very well. But the Maze brings dangers, and the aftermath might be even worse.
I won't spoil it, just watch/read! I promise it won't disappoint. And maybe one day, we'll meet again in the Maze Runner fan-fiction community.
