"Hey Case- Oh my God!" I shouted when I got into work today. "Dude, what the fuck!?" Casen had a black eye and the side of his face was bruised.
"Don't worry," he said casually. "I'm fine."
"Dude, are you sure?" I asked, tenderly touching his face. "Cause if you want to take the day off, I'll totally get it. You look like you got hit by a fucking truck."
"I bet he offered a garbage truck driver a blow job and got punched for it," Ryan sniggered from the doorway of my studio. Casen looked terrified and shuffled a bit behind me while I snapped, "Fuck off, Ryan."
"You know, that's not very nice," Ryan pouted, walking into my studio further. "You're really starting to hurt my feelings. Why can't we be friends?" He took my hand in a way that meant, 'Let's get drinks later tonight.' He made my skin crawl. I ripped my hand out of his and said, "Because you're an egotistical asshole. Get the fuck out of my studio." Ryan actually looked upset before leaving but I shrugged it off. I didn't care about him. He was a creep always trying to mess with my best friend.
"Anyway," I said falling into my computer chair and spinning to face Casen. "Do you want to take the day off?"
"Nope," he said awkwardly.
"Are you sure?" I asked, confused as to why Casen was acting weird.
"Yep." Casen started digging through his bag, pulling out his laptop before turning back to me. "Lyric, I've gotta te-"
"Lyric your ten o'clock is here," Mina, the new receptionist, buzzed on the intercom.
"Send 'em up," I replied before excitedly spinning to look at Casen. "Neck Deep is coming to record here! In my studio! How great is that!?"
"It's pretty cool, but-"
"Helloooo!" Ben said as he, Lloyd, Matt, Fil and Dani walked into the studio.
"Hey guys!" I said cheerfully, getting super excited. "Are we ready to work?"
"Totally," Lloyd said happily.
We spent a couple of hours recording some new tracks for their upcoming album Life's Not Out To Get You before they had to go.
"Thank you so much," Ben said to me as the band packed up their things to leave.
"Are you kidding?" I said, "Thank you. I fucking love you guys!"
"Aw, thanks love," Matt said and I grinned like an idiot. After they left I grinned stupidly while Casen logged their session time on his laptop and how many songs we recorded. After ten minutes, Mina buzzed in again. "Lyric, your two o'clock is here."
"Send 'em up, Mina," I said cheerfully. My heart was pounding with excitement.
"Who's that?" Casen asked.
"Real Friends," I replied excitedly.
After Real Friends entered my studio and I had a mini fan girl attack, we got to work. The recording took a few hours but we finally finished their sixth EP. They thanked me as well and left. Once they were gone I started screaming happily. Then Mina buzzed in for the third time.
"Lyric, your-"
"Send them upppp," I said happily, hopping around before trying to calm myself for the arrival of Citizen, who would be recording tracks for their new album Everybody Is Going To Heaven.
By the time they left and Casen had logged everyone's studio time, it was nine thirty. The two of us headed down to the cafeteria, where I got coffee and Casen grabbed some graham crackers and water.
"So, what did you want to tell me before?" I asked after a while, just remembering.
"Um..." Casen wasn't looking at me. Instead he was staring at the window in the break room that looked out into the hall. I turned to see what he was looking at, but it just looked like someone had walked past the break room. Then I turned back to Casen expectantly. He shook his head. "It was nothing. Nothing important."
"Um, okay," I replied. "Anyway, do you need a ride home?"
"No, I'm okay," he said. "I've got to go back to my college dorm."
"I didn't know you lived on campus," I said in wonder. "I thought you had your own apartment."
"I do," Casen replied. "But I still have my campus dorm too. I've got some stuff in there I have to move into my apartment."
"Are you sure you don't want me to hel-"
"No!" Casen exclaimed quickly. I gave him an odd look and he said shakily, "It's a mess. I don't want you to see all the crap me and my room mate leave lying around. You have brothers. You know how gross they are."
"Charlie is pretty gross," I mumbled, thinking of my oldest brother, though still younger than me. "Okay. I'll see you later then. The wife's waiting at home." Casen laughed, but the laugh didn't seem to meet his eyes. I blamed it on fatigue. We rarely work with that many people in one day. I said my goodbyes and left, walking out into the parking lot. As I approached my car, it felt like someone was watching me. I scanned the lot and didn't see anyone, so I shook it off as paranoia and got in my car, starting it up and driving home singing about tired eyes and bony knees.
A/N: I fucking love Real Friends
