The Date

It's now a quarter to one. Sawyer is already waiting outside the movie theatre. He is wearing his jeans, his only pair of casual sneakers and his favorite well-worn shirt. He is passing the time by looking at the wonderful posters of movies. He then takes out his wallet from his front pocket and he counts the money he has. Ok. 'Eto na lang ang natira kong pera pagkatapos kong mamili ng groceries, bayad konti ng utang at bigay kay mama. Ok lang ito, may nasave pa naman ako dati pa. So ok lang na gagasto muna para sa date namin ni Autumn. Sa tingin ko kahit magsnack pa kami mamaya,puede pa. Makakauwi pa ako. Ayos!

"Hi Sawyer!" Her voice surprises Sawyer who still had his head down looking at his wallet when she arrives.

"Hi Autumn. Andito ka na pala," Sawyer greets the beautiful girl wearing baby blue frames and matching baby blue headband, making sure to pronounce her name with particular softness and care as he nonchalantly puts his wallet back inside his front pocket. Sawyer can't help but look at Autumn who is now wearing a form fitting black top, white pedal pushers and red sneakers. This is the first time that he's seen her in casual clothes and not in her oversized Retro Diner uniform.

Sawyer compliments Autumn on her looks. "Ang ganda mo pala 'pag di ka naka uniform."

"Ano? So ibig sabihin, hindi ako maganda sa work?" Autumn looks a little irritated.

"Ah, hindi.. ang ibig kong sabihin, iba lang talaga 'pag nakacasual.. sexy," Sawyer clarifies.

"So, hindi ako sexy sa work?" Autumn asks still looking irritated.

"Ah, eh... ibig kong sabihin—" Sawyer clumsily tries to reason his way out, now looking redder than ever with embarrassment.

Autumn puts her hand on Sawyer's shoulder to calm him down. "Sawyer, relax. I'm just playing with you. I know I don't look particularly good in my oversized Retro Diner Uniform. Just don't tell Mindy that I told you that, 'cause I told her that her old uniform fit just fine. Hehe."

Sawyer breathes a sigh of relief, glad that Autumn is not really mad at him.

"Ok Autumn, 'di ko sasabihin kay Mindy – tara, nood na tayo cine." Sawyer suggests as he leads her towards the "Now Showing" posters.

"Anong gusto mong panoorin? May action Mageextra Rice Ka Pa, Sa Kakainin Mong Bala, may parang horror yata ito Night of the Living but Almost Dead Zombie Callcenter Agent at may isang romantic comedy ang –."

"Ooh. Oh! Showing na pala ito! Nabusy ako masyado sa pagwork, 'di na 'ko updated sa mga movies. Favorite ko ito Sawyer!" Autumn exclaims as she picks out the movie for their first date.

"Cge... ako na nito," Sawyer agrees as he pulls out his wallet and walks over to the ticket booth.

"Ah walang ganayanan, ano na lang.. KKB na lang tayo," Autumn says as she pulls out some money from her small purse and hands it to the girl at the booth. "Ah miss, isa din sa akin, para sa Heart-Heart-Laugh-Laugh-Cry-Cry Part 5: Mahalin Mo Naman Ako Kahit sa Text Lang."

Behind them, a woman in a stylish knitted poncho top, an equally stylish scarf around her neck, extravagantly curly hair, short shorts, high cut sneakers and carrying a bucket of popcorn covering her bespectacled face buys a ticket for the same movie.

Inside the movie theatre, the boy and girl are now seated comfortably in their seats when the woman with the large bucket of popcorn comes in. She enters the row just above theirs and she is looking at Sawyer and Autumn when she trips over another moviegoer's shoes. Popcorn rains inside the theatre. Everyone in the dark movie house turns to look at this woman who is now holding a mostly empty big bucket. She covers her face with the empty bucket as she says "Sorry." She finally gets to her seat just above Autumn and Sawyer. She puts the almost empty bucket of popcorn on her lap and her bottled water inside the seat's cup holder. As the opening credits of the movie roll, everyone's attention shifts from this clumsy lady to the big screen.
