A/N: Spoilers for Akechi in general and how he is in Royal!

                                             ____________________________________________

A blurriness edged your eyesight, and your head was heavy on your neck. You hardly even heard the door open.

"I knew it. Of course you'd be standing around like a fool..."

You swivelled your head, making out the figure of your childhood friend, Goro.

"Oh... when did you get here?"

Akechi sighed, taking off his coat. "And risking your safety. Honestly, what is wrong with you?"

He approached you with a deep frown, but his grip was gentle as he held your wrist to keep you steady. "I just got here a few minutes ago. You left your door unlocked. Anyone could've came in."

You followed his lead with ease. "Oh... I was so focused on making dinner that I forgot, I guess..."

His frown depended further, almost a scowl. "And that's why you're not in bed?"

You almost heard a 'this girl...' under his breath. "I planned to eat quick so I can rest...!"

"So? What were you going to make?" Akechi questioned sharply, but his tone didn't matter much to you anymore, after all these years. You knew he was worried. "Quickly."

"Um, I..." You struggled to think, your head feeling full of cotton. "O-Okay... I was looking, but I can't think straight... and I don't even know what's in date..."

Akechi sighed again, seemingly annoyed. However he ushered you to the couch, pushing your shoulders gently back. As you lay down, you looked up at him quizzically. He nearly clicked his tongue at your shutting eyes.

"If you don't rest now, your body will make you. So stay here unless you want a concussion from fainting." He advised strictly. "Sleep if you can."

"Huh...? Where are you going?" You asked, already feeling tired. The cushion was comfortable against your throbbing skull.

He unbuttoned the top of his shirt collar. "To your kitchen, obviously. Can't have you starve to death."

At his words, you gave a soft, almost dopey smile. Sure you were a little out of it... but you appreciated his efforts. "Thank you, Goro..."

Akechi paused, then let out a quick exhale through his nose. You're sure you saw a smile before he turned away. "If you want to give thanks, then do it by getting some proper rest. Surely you can handle that."

Getting comfortable, you nodded, shutting your eyes. It didn't take long for you to doze off, your body needing the sleep. While you did, Akechi headed to the kitchen and inspected your fridge and cupboards. He rolled his eyes slightly at your choice of foods - your taste hasn't changed in all the years he's known you.

He managed to find some healthy ingredients, enough to throw into a pot of broth and call a soup. Donning an apron of yours and tying his hair back into a ponytail, he began cutting the veg.

The kitchen was quiet aside from the sound of the knife. Whenever he held one, it felt like his body was on autopilot- he simply stared into the cutting board with glazed eyes. Until the knife met the wood, accidentally being imbedded in it.

"... Shit." He snapped out of it, sighing as he emptied the contents into the pot.

That's right... He could never fool himself for long. Who did he think he was, parading around your kitchen like a demure little househusband? He's done things, terrible things. And he's somewhat made peace with that...
