Joy was a closed member of SM Entertainment trainees not like other members who were exposed through SM Rookies.

She entered SM Entertainment through the global audition in 2012 which is the same as Wendy.

Because she went on a public the latest among members, she was worried if fans would like her at first.

Her several accolades outside Red Velvet include Best Couple Award at the MBC Entertainment award in which she won with Yook sung-Jae for her reality act in We Got Married.
